Hi all! I am new to the group. I've been reading a lot about an article in

Parenting Magazine on plagio. I haven't read the article, but based on what

you guys are saying, it doesn't sound near as good as the article I read in

Babytalk Magazine. Thanks to this article, our daughter, Jessie, will be in

her helmet this Saturday. She will be exactly 11 mos. old to the day. Kudos

to Babytalk Magazine!!! I've already e-mailed them and thanked them. I'd

never even heard of plagio til I read that article. Like so many of you, we

were told Jessie's head would round on its own. We first brought it to our

pediatricians attention @ the 6 mo. checkup. She said not to worry and we'd

look at it @ the 9 mo. I was the one who had to bring it up @ the 9 mo. and

indicated to her that Jessie's head had not changed in 3 mos. At that point

she sent us for x-rays to rule out craniosynostosis. The x-rays showed that

no premature closure was taking place and we were told again that all was

fine. That was on Dec. 17. It wasn't until I read that article and went to

the websites it listed for further info. that I learned what our daughter

had. I new time was of the essence. I called our pediatrician and relayed

what I'd learned to her nurse. The nurse had never heard of plagiocephaly.

Our doctor referred us to Dr. Cohen @ Rainbow Children's Hospital in

Cleveland. He is a pediatric Neurosurgeon. When I called, his secretary

(understanding the time factor), referred us immediately to Straight Ahead

Pediatrics (also in Cleveland). She explained that they are physical

therapists who would evaluate, cast and do all of the follow-up tx using the

DOC band. I was told we would not even need to see Dr. Cohen. I was amazed at

the urgency with which they responded. Jessie was seen just 2 days after

contacting them and diagnosed as severe. We were told she was asymmetrical 21

mm (almost 1 inch). She was casted 2 days later and will have been in her

helmet 1 week later. They are expecting at least a 50% improvement. We'll

take it! I thank God that article came to me when it did and for the

informative websites. I will keep all of you and your precious little angels

in my prayers. Theresa

Theresa:

Congratulations on getting fast and informed treatment for your daughter.

It is great to have the DOC band available here in Cleveland and Straight

Ahead has been very responsive to families.

Best of luck with the treatment of your child!!
