Hello, I am sorry you are having a tough day. I am wondering why he

diagnosed your son without a CT or something too? You say that he has Brachy

and that his doctor said that is the hardest to correct. Why is that? My

daughter was recently diagnosed with Brachycephaly and I am very concerned.

I want her to be able to be " round " too. What do you know about Brachy? If

you could please tell me anything you know. I am sorry again for everything

you are going through. It is just awful to worry and then worry more. I

wish your day was more fullfilling than it was. I hope you get the answers

you need soon. Your son is in my prayers as well. Oh, I live in Ohio. Do

you? HUGS,

Hello. I am sorry for what you are going through. My son has brachy and not plagio. He did not get the helmet on until he was almost 11 months old. He is 17 months old and we have seen good results so far. Not as much as I expected, but he still has another 6 months to go. And I know that is because we started him so late. I would not worry about it, our nurse practicioner told us that although it may be a little harder to correct brachiocephaly, there are usually no asymetric features with brachiocephaly, so if you don't get 100% correction, in the end his head will be a little flat, which the hair will cover anyway. Your child is only 7 months, so that will make a HUGE difference. As for the Cranio part, I'm not sure, but from all the research I have done, I believe it has to be diagnosed by a CT. Check the internet, which I'm sure you have. I know that it has been a hard day, but please be reassured that since your child is 7 months, you WILL see results. Boy, I have researched for hours and hours about plagio, and I have never heard anyone say that a 7 month old would only get 50% correction. She is wrong. Lori

Re: Tough Day

Hi ,

We are in Michigan, but we are just north of the OH border. The physical therapist told us that brachy is hardest to correct. I'm not sure why, except that she did say that because the whole back of the head is flat there is not a good place for the band to sit. She said we should expect more movement of the band because it cannot "catch" good in the back. She didn't say that correction was impossible, but that for us to be satisfied it might take two bands. It just wasn't what we wanted to hear. But, just so you know, correction is possible with bracy, but it might take longer than some other shapes. Hope that helps,

Re: Tough Day

Hi Lori,

Thanks for your reply. She did say that he has some facial asymetry going on which I didn't expect with brachy either. I also expected a better correction than 50% because he is still relatively young to get going. But, I think she might have said that he could get 50% correction with the first band and then might get more with a second band. I'm going to call her back on Mon. to clarify. It was just a lot to process at once because first she said he would probably need two bands, and then she said she has never seen our insurance pay for them. So my head is spinning and I'm thinking 8 months in a band instead of 4, and $6,000 instead of $3,000! Plus I was still worring about why our doctor wrote cranio on the order, so, I'm not sure if I heard her correctly. I will post again after I speak with her.

Dear , It helps a lot. I appreciate what you told me. I am getting

more nervous everyday about Lauryn. She goes to Dr. Billmire on March 6th.

I just hope he decides to not do surgery on her, but, I am thinking he won't.

HUGS,

Sooooo sorry to hear about the tough day you had. I am very surprised that

your specialist did not tell you that he suspected cranio. I'm going to agree

with what others have told you that he may SUSPECT cranio, but to know for

sure a CT scan will be necessary.

Also, I wanted to make sure I have it correct that a physical therapist

evaluated your son? It seems unusual that a PT would be doing your eval.

Usually it is an orthotist that does the consultation before receiving the

band. I think a call to your specialist is definitely in order and I am

hoping that you have already found something out by the time you read this

post! I just cannot believe that starting so young you won't get more then

50% correction even if it is brachy. It's also strange that the PT is saying

it is brachy and yet there is facial assymetry. Make sure you ask your

specialist tons of questions if you get to speak to him on the phone - he

should be the one that knows everything there is to know about brachy!!

Good luck and I'm watching for your update!

Marci:

Our clinician was a physical therapist. I believe this is common with many Cranial Tech. clinicians.

I am pretty sure Cranial Tech hires mainly physical therapists or

occupational therapists, this is what I was told when Abby rec'd her

band. They actually hire few orthotists to my understanding :)
