Guest guest
Dear Forum members, This is in response to Dr. Thangsing's posting on Home based AIDS care models. Oxford University press has brought out a manual on home-based care. " Home-based HIV/AIDS care - A manual for caregivers " L. Uys, S. Cameron(2003) Largely based on experineces from South Africa. The details of the book can be found at the following link http://www.oup.com/isbn/0-19-578198-8?view=in . The OUP site provides the following description of the book " Home-based care is likely to become the dominant form of AIDS care in South Africa. This is one of the first textbooks to address the needs of anyone intending to establish a home-based care programme as well as students, volunteers, and practising nurses working in home-based care. Comprehensive and holistic coverage of HIV issues enable providers to feel confident at all stages of the home-based care process. Clear and sensitive guidelines on patient care in under-resourced circumstances prepare nurses and others to set up home-based care environments in any setting. Sections on slf-awareness and self-care enable community caregivers to stay physically and psychologically healthy despite the pressures of their work. " Readership: This book is particularly recommended for training community health workers and counselling adults, children, and families affected by HIV/AIDS. Contents A model for home-based care Implementing integrated community-based home care Training community caregivers for a home-based care programme Counselling in the context of HIV/AIDS Running support groups for people with HIV/AIDS Dealing with the symptoms of full-blown AIDS The home visit in home-based care Infection control Dealing with poverty Planning for orphans and HIV-affected children __________ Mitulika Chawla Documentealist/IEC Officer Family Health International E-mail: <mitulika@...>
