Guest guest
Hi. Ok Ihave yet another question while I sit here and think of this helmet I am so patiently awaiting for my daughter.Yeah right patiently is not the word I should be using. haha. I was wondering when she eats if she gets food on it does it wash off easy or would say spaghetti stain it? I know that spaghetti sauce that gets dripped on my kitchen floor stains it orange. So would it stain the DOC band. ANd also on her first birthday (which isnt for sometime but she will still be in the band) when shes sitting in the high chair ready to go nose deep into some cake. DO I take off the band. I know common sense probably should kick in somewhere about now but since I have none that isnt going to be possible. So if someone could give some insight into the whole baby eating and getting food all over the DOC band I would be ever so greatful Thanks! Guest guest
Christi, We never had any problem getting good off of 's helmet. We used 97% rubbing alcohal which seemed to clean the helmet very well. As far as the first birthday - taking off the band is momma's choice! If you want to leave it on, go for it. We left 's helmet on and we taped her birthday hat to it - LOL - it was hysterical and she wore it the whole time. That never would have happened if we had had the hat on her bare head! Go with your instinct - you will know what to do! Marci (mom to ) oklahoma
Guest guest
Oh Christi you are too cute-spaghetti will stain the foam but not the outside of the helmet-that generally wipes clean pretty easy I found. Anything that gets on the foam part can generally be scrubbed away with alcohol. Make sure you have lots of that on hand for cleaning the band. It is probably up to you if you want to remove the band or not but if you think she will go knee deep in cake then maybe you want to- just to save y ou the headache of having to scrub it later:-) FYI I used the clear back stickers which worked like a charm- for some reason (if you change the stickers a lot which I did) they pealed off and stuck on really easy and there was no scrubbing and chipping away sticker pieces so you may want to try that. Also I always had 's name right across the forehead and often instead of stares he often got hellos with his name which brought a big smile to his face for all of the attention. Food for thought. March 6th is so close (too close considering my due date is March 10th) cant wait to hear how Mya does and how you decide to decorate. Hang in there:-) And remember no question is silly- just ask away! Beck
Guest guest
Hi Christi, We never had a problem with food staining our bands. We had some moleskin added to the sideburns to act as cushions, but they also pulled double duty by protecting the inside area of the band. However, we have had some members who asked how to get spaghetti sauce off of their band. If the tried and true rubbing alcohol doesn't work, then you can try 'Shout Stain Wipes', be sure to ask your ortho/clincian first if it'll be ok to use them. Danny had graduated from the band by the time the twins' birthday came around but Kaylie was still wearing hers. We left her band off while we had family over, it was only for a few hours so we figured there was no harm in leaving it off. Niki Kaylie & Danny (STAR grads) Phila., PA > Hi. Guest guest
Beck Thanks for the tips. Due date? So you are pregnant? Wow well congrats. Hope all goes well with delivery. I will keep you all posted once she gets her band. And once I figure out what I am doing with the decorating Ill post some pictures. Thanks for not thinking I am some crazy weirdo who asked all kinds of silly questions. You just cant imagine what you can think up when its late at night and your kids are asleep and hubby is gone for 7 weeks. YOur mind starts to run wild and think of all kinds of things you dont normally have time to think of. Thanks again for the answers to my questions CHristi mom TO MYa > Oh Christi you are too cute-spaghetti will stain the foam but not the outside > of the helmet-that generally wipes clean pretty easy I found. Guest guest
Hey Christi- I know what the mind can do when you are alone my hubby travels all the time for work and when we were in your position I slept a wink a night and spent the rest of the time freaking out and researching on the computer. He still travels all the time but now I have a 14 month old and a soon to be newborn to concentrate on and that doesn't leave too much time for much else-although I have already started obsessing about the head shape of this munchkin and positioning tactics-so we will see. came out with a flat head so we will see with this one. Where is your hubby for 7 weeks-that is a long time!!!!!! I used to look forward to my husbands travels but now not so much-he called today and said he wouldn't be home tonight now-so who knows when tomorrow the next day? Hope I don't go into labor or he is dead meat! Beck
Guest guest
Hi Christi: You crack me up! I never really had any trouble with Abby staining her bands. Whenever she did get food on it, it was on the plastic part so it easily wiped off. There have been questions posted in the past though about carrot stains & such inside the band. For her 1st birthday, I kept the band off of her for her party & cake! A couple - 3 hrs wasn't gonna harm her progress so I let her enjoy some fresh air & cake on her head! Now try to remain patient :-0! Debbie Abby's mom DOCgrad MI > Hi. Guest guest
If the tried and true rubbing alcohol doesn't work, then you can try 'Shout Stain Wipes', be sure to ask your ortho/clincian first if it'll be ok to use them. Christi: I used the Shout wipes, and they worked wonderfully, but only on the velcro strap of the band. I wouldn't recommend using them on the inside. A good old "sun soak" (leave it inside up in direct sunlight after cleaning for the hour it is off) does wonders for the yellowing that can occur on the inside of the band.
