Hello. My son started his passive helmet 6 months ago. He is 17 months now, and we have about 5 or so months to go. He was 11 months when he got it. When we got the helmet I did'nt know anything about different kinds of helmets. We have seen OK results, and I'm starting to worry that we should have gotton a DOC or STAR band. Could you please tell me how old your child was and how long he wore it. I guess I need to be reassured. I feel that we have gone 6 long months so far, with 6 to go, and I feel like maybe we should see better results. You sound like you were in the same situation as us. Thank you. Lori.

Lori:

My daughter wore both a STARband & a DOCband so I cannot offer much

personal advice regarding a locally made helmet. I am assuming your

son's helmet is " passive " meaning it does not apply any type of

pressure to help push out his flatter side - most local helmets are

passive.

At 17 mos., you would likely see better results with an " active "

style band, such as a DOCband made by Cranial Technologies. Active

bands apply very mild pressures to the non flat side of a child's head

to help push out their flat side (the pressures are not felt by the

child). I do not believe Orthomerica, mfg of the STARband bands

children after they are 18 mos of age you can see their website at

www.orthomerica.com to double check that. But Cranial Tech (DOCband)

bands til a child is 24 mos old.

Where do you live? There are 15 US Cranial Tech locations. Check out

their website for more info if you'd like www.cranialtech.com .

I hope this helps.

Lori,

started in her passive helmet when she was 9 months old. She wore it

until she was about 15 1/2 months old. We did get some good correction, but

not as much as I would have hoped for. To be very honest with you there have

been many times when I have wondered if we would have gotten more correction

if we had used a dynamic band instead. Unfortunately at the time I was in the

same position as you are - I didn't have a clue about the other options that

were availabe and at the time no dynamic bands were available in my state.

I try not to second guess myself because we did get good correction -

is a beautiful, healthy, intelligent and active girl and I try to focus on

that. To be straight with you - if I had it do all over again and knowing

what I know now I would have used a band considering 's somewhat late

start. However, that is not to say that the your baby's helmet will not

correct some of the issues. Try to take lots of pictures so you can compare -

maybe the improvement has been subtle or slow and you just haven't noticed.

Good luck and please keep us posted.
