Thank you Niki and Debbie. You have set my mind at ease regarding

Naomi's loose area on her band. I think it is fitting ok, based upon

what you both have said. Hopefully she will hit a growth spurt soon

and it will fill in. I appreciate your comments.

As for the laser scan - it is a device that is made by Orthomerica

and is really fascinating. Naomi just gets down to her diaper, the

put that stocking thing over her face, with little sticker dots on

her ears, in the eye area, and her nose, then they lay her down, her

orthotist holds her (not in a bad way, but just so she is still).

Then the laser scans her head in about 1-2 seconds. It is great. We

didn't even have to go through the casting process, she just had a

laser scan and then they made her band from that. I believe that

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (where we go) is one of the very few

if not only place that has this laser scan right now. They are using

it to make the bands, keep track of progress, and also do some

research on the effectiveness of banding. I am pleased that we are

using it, because in my logical type mind, I will get some hard and

fast answers as to how Naomi's head is changing. They save all the

scans and then the program charts them on top of each other. They

then can rotate around and look at all the different angles of her

head and see how much they change.

Well, sorry this was so long about the scanning process, but I think

it is wonderful. Hopefully they will use these elsewhere in the

future.

Thanks again for everyone's help.

Dear Group,

The scanner is incredible. It represents a quantum leap in technology for our industry. I have a STARscanner here in Houston, Texas. It is mounted in a 30 foot mobile motor coach called "The StarCoach". With the scanner we are able to go to clinics, physician offices, and children's home areas as well.

It takes a scan in about 1 second...that is it. You can also compare scans and see the actual changes throughout the course of treatment. Every mother who has had a child casted for a band previously and then experiences the scanning says, "Is that it? Is that all there is?"

Big smiles I assure you.

Scanning is just so much less traumatic for everyone.

Marci,

It really is unbelievable! On our web site will have the mpeg video of the

scanning process. It should be added to the page by Saturday. The Cartesian

coordinate quad graphical illustrations are very helpful for parents to see

the changes in the child's head circumference and shape. I'll add those,

too.

Check out the STARcoach at www.medicalcenterbraceandlimb.com
