What happens at the fitting?

Hi. Mya has her fitting appointment for her DOC band on wednesday

And I am curious to know what exactly happens at the fitting. I mean

Im sure they just dont hand me the band and say see ya. So if anyone

could give me an idea of what to expect Id really appreciate it.

I can't remember if you have a long drive to your Cranial Tech. I

hope I get this all right, this was over 1 yr ago already & beleive

it or not, I'm drawing a blank! Abby & I did have a long drive so

when we rec'd her band, we had an early morning appt.. They actually

recommended that we stay over night in case of any problems, but we

chose not to do that. They put the band on her head, left it on for

10-15 mins, took it off to check for any red spots. I think they did

that for 1 hr maybe? There weren't any red spots on her head, so

then we hung out in town for a couple hrs while Abby had her band on

still. We went back to the clinic after 2 or 3 hrs when they again

checked for any red spots. She didn't have any problems with it, so

we headed home! Thankfully, there weren't any problems with red

spots so we didn't need to go back (4 hr one way drive). For the

first 2 days or so, I usually took the band off every other hour to

make sure there weren't any bad red spots that did not go away w/i

one hour of the band being off.

I think they might have shaved a bit off of the middle area on her

forehead (the spot by her nose) but that was it. It was a perfect

fit!

Christi,

Probably all fittings vary slightly, however, at 's fitting the ortho

taught us to take the helmet off and on and let us practice a few times. He

then put the helmet on her and looked at the fit. He took it off, made a few

adjustments and put it back on. He did that several times until the fit was

just right and then we left with his phone number in hand and his

instructions to call ANYTIME if we had a question or concern.

Thanks so much! Atleast now I have a good idea of what to expect.

It is a 3 hour drive for us one way and they also suggested we stay

overnight. So both my girls and I will stay in a hotel and my son

will stay with my friend so he can still go to school. Her

appointment is at 11 am I made sure it was that time so that I could

atleast see my son off to school that morning. What causes the red

spots and what happens if she does get red spots that dont go away?

I will be glad once she has the band so I can stop wondering.

Our fitting went almost exactly like Marci's did. Our ortho showed

me the right way to put their bands on, nad had me do it a couple of

times. He also told me all about how to care for the band. And then

he kept making adjustments until the bands fit just right. Good luck

at the fitting on Wednesday, be sure to let us know how Mya does!
