Guest guest
Dear Friends, In the short period that Indian sex workers have mobilized to form their own movement, they have achieved considerable success in not only, highlighting the excesses of state violence and societal discrimination against sex workers, but also, in emerging as a powerful voice in the policy debates surrounding the regulation of sex work. Nevertheless, the main demands of the movement, articulated ever since the first national sex workers’ conference in 1997 in Kolkata,West Bengal, India, that sex work be recognized as a form of labor has not found expression in a concrete proposal for policy or law reform. Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee, a forum a 60,000 sex workers in West Bengal is organizing a workshop on sex workers’ rights titled “Policy and Law Reform relating to Sex Work” at KGMOA Hall,General Hospital Junction,Trivandrum on 4th March’2003 from 10 am – 5pm.The main objectives of the workshop are : 1. To examine thoroughly sex workers’ demands that sex work be considered to be a form of labor 2. To evaluate the advantages of treating sex work as a form of labor; We are cordially inviting you to be an active participant to the workshop. With lot of expectations and thanks in advance, With regards, Angura Begum (Secretary) Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee E-mail: <sonagachi@...>
