Thanks for the answer. One more question what is a difference between an osteopath and a cranial osteopath ? What kind of qualifications do they have? Thanks Anne
Guest guest
I take my son to an osteopath who specializes in cranial manipulation and I see him once a month. Every two weeks I take my son to a craniosacral therapist. I also have my son in a DOCband. I do feel the osteopathy and craniosacral therapy works well to loosen the muscles so the band can work more effectively but I decided to do the band also as I was unwilling to trust that those would fix his headshape alone. I did do the craniosacral therapy for almost two months before starting with the band with no visible results until after he received the band. He received about 65 percent corrrection with his first band from 9 to 14 mo. and I am already seeing a little nnew correction into his second band. Guest guest
Hi Anne & welcome to our group Glad you have joined us. I am glad that you already have your son's casting done & over with - how did he handle it? What type of helmet will he be receiving? (A DOCband, STARband or locally made helmet). You're starting helmet therapy at a great younger age. Nicolas should receive excellent & faster correction! We have had many disuccsions in the past regarding osteopathy. The parents who have tried it, have been thrilled with their results. However, I don't think osteopathy has made a significant change in their child's head shape. I'm going to do a search of our archives & see what I can turn up regarding osteopathy. Seems how you already had Nicolas casted for his helmet, I would go ahead with the helmet therapy and possibly do the osteopathy as well. Again, welcome to our group. We look forward to hearing more from you. Debbie Abby's mom DOCgrad MI p.s....we've had some problems on our board the past few days (maintenance) which is probably why your first post hasn't shown up yet, I don't think you did anything wrong > Hello everyone, > > I did not see my previous post( " New member " ), maybe I made a mistake > as it is the first time. > > Here is our story: > My son is 5 month old and has been diagnosed with > torticollis/plagiocephaly at 4 month. Guest guest
Anne, I forgot to mention to you that my pt also did craniosacral therapy, which seemed like nothing at first, almost like holding him and meditating, but the focus is with energy and the fluidity of the body. I can say that it helped loosen his tight muscle, and helped relax him. I would say also that it helped diminish his lump, a HUGE hematoma as she would have us point a direction of energy towards the lump. It seemed very hokey at first, but you could feel the heat after awhile so it seemed legit. I would not have used this as sole therapy however, and as you and I have talked he did use the DOC band as well. ' Mom
Guest guest
I know the osteopath I go to is a graduate and past president of the Cranial Academy so I am assuming that as well as experience are his additional training. There is a website for the cranial academy and I believe you have to send in about $5.00 for a list of osteopaths in your area.
