WOW! Imagine my surprise when I checked into the group last night and saw

my sweetie on the front page!!!

Let's see now, here is Maxwell Danger Hart's story. Yes,

Danger is his 2nd middle name. No, it's not a family name. Yes, his dad

and I are a bit off and he'll either hate it or love it.

Maxwell's due date was August 1st, 2000. On June 3rd, I started preterm

labor at 31 weeks, 5 days, just like his older sister who was also born

at 32 weeks. But we knew this may happen (I was hoping it wouldn't) and

were prepared for it... sort of. I hit the couch after 3 days in the OB

ward, making sure the contractions stopped. Two drugs were given

(Terbutaline, spelling is wrong I'm sure) to make sure he stayed put and

I did NOT want another 32 weeker so I set the alarm to wake me up every 3

hours to take one or the other of the drugs. Well, after 2 weeks I had

lost 7 pounds from puking and not eating as the drugs, to me, were like

prescribed speed and I couldn't sleep nor eat; just puke and buzz around

the house, cleaning up like I was NOT supposed to. We stopped the drugs

on June 15th, thinking Maxwell might be born on the 16th, his dad's

birthday. But the contractions did not start until Friday, June 30th. I

remember the date at I woke up that AM and the contractions had changed

from the all-over Braxton-Hicks to the " four corners of my

uterus " . (I know I don't have corners per se but it was only in 4

spots so it felt like corners.) I gleefully went to my bi-weekly

appointment (I was going on Tuesday's & Friday's to be checked to

make sure Max was not moving quicker than I was acknowledging as I have a

track record of being in denial about labor; I'll tell you all about

le's birth later; it's really funny!) and found out that my OB/GYN

would be out of town that long 4th of July weekend (the 4th was on a

Tuesday that year so most had the 3rd off as well) so I knew for sure

that Maxwell would be born that weekend. My luck.

So, I was totally trying to make the contractions come faster as I

wanted, sort of, Maxwell to be born on the 1st of the month as my

birthday is June 1st and I wanted us to have matching dates like

le and her dad being on the 16th of their respective months. But

all the grocery shopping and bending and lifting and up & down our 2

flights of stairs did no good. That day.

At 12:10am on Sunday, July 2nd, I woke up after going to bed at like 8pm

due to extreme exhaustion from my day's activities. Every 10 minutes they

came. I took a tubby to ease the horrendous back pain I was feeling. Not

back labor but just the start of contractions for me and the shoving

forward of the baby to make me look like I was pointing out of the

middle. I got my bag ready to take down stairs, made up Gabby's bag for

staying at her cousins and took every thing down to the car and pulled

the car to the front of the apartment. Gabby heard me shuffling around so

I got her up and hunkered down on the couch with a Disney movie.

They kept coming, 4:00, 4:10, 4:20, 4:27, 4:35, 4:42... I went to get

Jack up:

" Honey, it's time to leave. "

" For what? "

" For the hospital. "

" Why? "

(me getting irritated) " To give birth to your son,

Maxwell. "

" What son? "

(at this point I have realized he's still asleep and he's just talking at

me so I punched him. Hey, I was in major labor and they were now 5

minutes apart and he was NOT responding so he deserved it at that point

in my labor-ridden brain)

" Oh, hi, honey. What time is it? What's wrong?! "

" It's time to go to the hospital, Jack. "

" I need some coffee and a shower. " (HE needs a

shower?!!!!)

I say in a VERY stern voice with a LOT of anger and flaring nostrils,

" You have 6 minutes to get washed and out the door. That is 2

contractions. I WILL LEAVE WITHOUT YOU. " And he knew I would have,

too.

I made the coffee and we were out the door at 5:12am.

Dropped Gabby off at his brother's house at 5:18 am and I was practically

crawling in the hospital at 5:22am. Got the epidural @ 7am as I was only

1/2cm. dialated but 100% effaced with 3 1/2 minute long contractions

every 30-40 seconds. 3 hours later, the 1st epidural wore off and they

" topped me off " and I was numb to my shoulders! Freaked me out!

They also asked if I wanted petosin: YES!!! I was only 1 cm at that

point. UGH.

At 11am they started the drip. At 11:30 am, I was totaly dilated and

ready to push. I started pushing at 11:38am and at exactly 12:00:00

(noon) on July 2nd, 2000, my baby boy was born at 5lbs. 11.75 ounces

& 19 inches long. They kept him in NBICU for a week and then we came

home.

At 2 months I noticed his funny shaped head. 8 months and 6 doctor's

appointments later, my father in law was the one who was convinced Max's

head was misshapen. We started seeing doctor's in PHOENIX as no one I

trusted in the San Francisco area took care of heads and my in-laws said

they'd cover what the insurance did not cover. The insurance eventually

covered $2100 of the $3000.

We went to Cranial Tech in Phoenix from May 16th through September 4th,

2001. You can see Max's head progress once I remake Max's plagio page. I

deleted my entire partition on my server by mistake so I'll let you know

when I get it up again.

Cranial Tech and the cranial facial doctor both agreed that most likely

the Plagio and Tort started around June 3rd when I first went into

preterm labor and the subsequent 4 weeks where Max was down in the birth

canal and the 8+ hours in the birth canal before he was born. I think it

was that and the stupid doctor who didn't believe me that Maxwell's head

was off-kilter.

Thanks for reading this novel. The plagio page tells more and you can

really see his progress there. Any questions, feel free to email

me.

Thanks for putting us up on the front page! Max started sleeping through

the night the day he got his helmet. He obviously felt comfortable enough

to fall asleep after lunch one afternoon last July.

,

Thank you for sharing your's and Max's story with us! He certainly

is a little cutie pie! I know what you mean by the terb being like

speed, I was given one shot and my heart started racing like crazy.

I was supposed to get a shot every half hour until the contractions

got under control, but they had to give me the mag sulfate instead.

I much preferred the terb to that stuff, yuck. Thanks again for

sharing!
