Orissa woman 'injected' with HIV for dowry dies

Nabarangpur (Orissa), February 17

An ailing housewife, who had made a startling allegation about her husband

injecting her with the HIV virus, died in Nabarangpur on Sunday night,

official sources said.

The woman identified as Rajani had charged that her husband had been

torturing her for more dowry and had given her an injection after which she

fell sick.

The district officials had recorded her statement on Sunday.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had sanctioned Rs.20, 000 from his relief fund

for her treatment and education of her eight-year-old son only two days ago.

Rajani's condition worsened in the morning on Sunday after which District

Collector Dr. Arabinda Padhee and other officials visited her.

The Orissa High Court had also directed the police to submit a detailed

report about the case after a PIL was filed in the court recently seeking

judicial intervention in the matter.
