Dan,

I would strongly urge you to find a careful, recommended chiropractor. It is

highly likely that the problem originates in your spine. (I wish you could come

see my doc here!) If you feel wary of being " adjusted, " as I myself am- find one

who will not only understand that but who knows how to use a device called an

" Activator. "

It is a spring operated thing that just gives a sharp thump to your joints and

moves them as needed-without all the pretzel maneuvers.

Is your physical therapist doing any hands-on stuff; anything resembling

massage? If not I would also recommend getting massage- but I really think it is

in yr spine. Exercise won't help.

Anyone tried Prolotherapy?

My right arm and shoulder have become increasingly weak over the past 4

months.

Sometimes so bad I can hardly put on a t-shirt! Can raise my arms straight

in front of me,

but not at all out to the sides (the right one anyway). Been doing exercises,

going to physical

therapy, but not really getting better. Very underweight...

Feels like my shoulder's going to dislocate. And for the past two weeks,

cannot sleep on that

side -- way too much spasm-pain.

SO, have been reading about prolotherapy -- it's supposed to help tighten up

loose tendons,

ligaments, etc., -- help the healing process while I try to get the nutrients

to do their thing.

So far have tried MSM, glucosamine/chondroitin, manganese, and just yesterday

bought

some HA (Hyaluronic acid caps, which is the compound -- I think -- that they

inject into

knees, joints, using this prolotherapy protocol)...

HELP!!!

***Hi Dan - Is it possible that you have " Frozen Shoulder " ? I have had

it for the past nine months, and for the past two and a half months I

have had very limited movement with my right arm. My sleep is also very

interrupted as I keep waking up because of the pain.

Take care.

Hi,

Early in my CFIDS experience I had " frozen shoulder " , aka synovitis or

adhesive capsulitis (sP?) (I know there is a difference between the

two.) I saw a chiropractor, did acupuncture, then at about the same

time I started physical therapy I started T-3. I have no idea if it

was the combination of PT and T-3 or if it was simply T-3. The same

thing happened a couple of years later when I was only taking T-4

again (long story about that) and mt hip froze up. Again I started T-3

and PT at the same time and both joints have been great ever since.

Now I have problems with the opposite shoulder and hip joints that

don't seem to be like the first episodes, but more ligament related. I

tried prolotherapy, did one round of about 6 treatments, and it did't

seem to help. I have a friend who did more of it than I, and she

seemed to improve. Hyalauronic (sp?) acid is suposed to be good for

frozen shoulder.

Best of luck to you. I know it can be really painful, and just another

way to be debilitated.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. The PT is helping a little, and I

certainly don't want

my muscles to atrophy any more, so I think some exercise is important. Don't

want to

become bedridden.

I guess too you could say it's a semi-frozen shoulder -- it's better at times,

then

sometimes the whole upper back tightens, or the other shoulder tightens a

little.

The other thing that DEFINITELY helps, but only for 2 days or so, is

acupuncture. Makes

an enormous difference.

Adrienne, I've had BAD experiences from a chiropractor -- about 3 years ago. I

could

hardly get off the table -- she was clueless. But I do know others who swear by

'em, and

say it all depends on the practitioner. I wish I could see your doc as well! :)

Friends at the

CFS meeting tonight said I should see a sports medicine specialist ASAP to make

sure it's

not worse than I think it is. (The physical therapists felt around the joints,

and said

everything seems to be in it's right place...) I personally think it's a combo

of my general

" deficiencies " -- weight loss, plus too much computer use -- PLUS, you're right

Adrienne, I

was told I don't hold my neck and head right, and my arm strength does get

temporarily

better when I sit or stand in that awkward, but " correct " position.

I have a feeling that the sports medicine referral (or orthopedist) will help

rule out stuff,

but won't have any treatment options except for surgery! Which, I dunno, was

the body

meant to have plastic, titanium and other metals inside it???

ARRGH!.

Anyway, thanks everyone! Any other feedback is sincerely appreciated!

I do too Nil. I just can't let this get any worse, or I'll be bedridden, so I'm

open to all

suggestions. I do see an acupuncturist (for only $9!!!) but only once a week.

That helps

AMAZINGLY. And the PT people do some gentle massage and neck strengthening,

adjusting-type things... I just wish I could go every other day...

sigh

***Hi Dan - If it is Frozen Shoulder, it usually goes away eventually,

however, from start to finish it lasts in the neighbourhood of 2 to 3

YEARS. I've had it now for 10 months, and I'm not even close to

starting to " unfreeze " which can take a year.

Take care.
