Guest guest
Dane had an irritated area. We were told to put Cortaid (hydrocortisone cream) on it while the band was off. It cleared up pretty quickly. Dane's mom (DOC Band 2/14/2001) > Hi. Mya seems to be doing wonderfully in her DOC band. Guest guest
Christi, I have heard of others who used cortisone cream to help alleviate skin problems. But be sure to check with your ortho first! Good luck! Niki Kaylie & Danny (STAR grads) Phila., PA > Hi. Mya seems to be doing wonderfully in her DOC band. Guest guest
Niki and Thanks for the input. I am glad this isnt some freak thing and that it has happened to other babies. I will make sure I check with the orthotist on friday when we go aboutthe hydrocortisone but Im glad to hear that will clear it up! Im thinking her band is going to need to be adjusted in that spot because now this morning when I took the band off to get her shirt on I looked at it and it was real red. I am leaving it off till the red spot goes away. Im hoping it will disapear in a few minutes so I can get her back in her band. Thanks again for the help Christi mom to Mya (DOC band 3/6/02) > > Hi. That's when she told me about the Cortaid. After his bath, I would put it on his skin in that area. Then when it all dried, I out the band back on - as long as the redness was gone. Guest guest
Abby also had dry skin while in her band, it only got dry when the weather turned warmer & she was sweating more than usual. We also used cortizone cream while the band was off & it cleared it up right away. Check with your ortho though! Debbie Abby's mom DOCGrad MI > > > Hi. Guest guest
Well Mya has been sweating tremendously lately. The weather is so weird here. I mean is 50 one day and then 75 for 3 days and then 50 again and then 75 for a few more days soo crazy. So its been so hard to keep a good temperature in the house. Ive been running the fan when she sleeps. But even throughout the day I have to constantly take the band off dry her head and the band and then put it back on. Poor thing. I feel so bad for her. Ive been dressing her in real light weight clothes to try and help her from sweating so bad. Hopefully I can figure this whole thing out. Guest guest
Dear Mya, I had the same problem with Max the 1st few days in his band. The weather turned hot & very dry & Max developed a red spot which then peeled. The red spot healed & I only had the band back on for a day or two before we had another hot, dry spell. I had to have the band off for most of the 1st 2 weeks as a result. The orthotist (at Cranial Therapies Burbank, CA) told me to use cortisone cream. He also told me I didn't need to wait until the cream dried to put the helmet back on. I have also changed to Pure Baby brand excema care body wash (all-in-one shampoo & soap) & cream - available at my local RiteAid. Max still has some dry areas on his scalp where his band doesn't cover, but the scaly red patches on his legs are much better & I have had no problems under the helmet. The weather is helping too. I hope this helps. Eileen (mom to Max) Long Beach, CA > Hi. Mya seems to be doing wonderfully in her DOC band. Guest guest
Hi. and thanks for the reply. Myas red spot on the back of her head is even worse. I called Cranial Tech yesterday to ask them about it and they said to leave the band off and wait till it isnt red anymore and then put it back on so I did that It took a long time to stop being red. But now tonight when I bathed her and I looked at her head again it is blood red and peeling and it looks just awful. I gave her a bath at 5 pm and when I layed her down a few minutes ago it had not gotten any lighter so I put her to bed without the band. I really didnt want to do that and I really struggled with deciding what I should do but I just cant put that band back on her head when it looks so bad. I will go check in an hour or so and see if it has gotten any lighter and if it is better before I go to bed tonight I will wake her and put it back on. But ughh I just hate having the band off. Well anyway we dont have a rite aid around here. I know in land where I am from and all my family is they have rite aid. So I will see if my mom can pick some of that stuff up maybe it will help. Thanks again Christi mom To Mya (DOC band 3/6/02) > > Hi. Mya seems to be doing wonderfully in her DOC band. Guest guest
Christi- Dane's head was like that for a few days when he had his ear infection and was moving his head left and right (I already posted about this). It took a few days to completely heal. I would take the band off during the day and keep putting cortaid on it. Then if it looked better, I would put it on and night. If needed, I took it off again in the morning. The mole skin helped a ton. When is yournext adjustment? They should be able to give some to you. It goes on the helmet where the area is irritated. I guess they grow more during the night, that is why I decided if I had to only have it on part time that nighttime was best. You are doing the right thing by letting it breathe. You certainly don't want it to get infected! Dane's mom
Guest guest
Christi: One night out of the band won't make or break Mya's progress, so don't worry about it. If the red spot is that bad & is not going away, then definitely keep her out of the band. I know you have long drives to your CT, but hopefully you can get her there soon to have it adjusted. Let us know how she's doing. Debbie Abby's mom DOCGrad MI > Hi. and thanks for the reply. Myas red spot on the back of her head > is even worse. Guest guest
also has a bit of ezcema- and my Doc wanted me to try Dove Body Wash instead of rx something- it seems to work well! I made the mistake of buying Aveeno because I have heard that works also, but the Dove body wash worked better for us. ' Mom
