Hi there! You might still have time!! My neuro-surgeon told me he

has had success up to 14 months old, but older than that he cannot

say whther the helmet really worked or whether it was mother nature.

We were too late. My daughter got into the neuro at 19 months and it

was too late. 14 months with the fontenal still open is VERY

hopeful! See what the specialist says after seeing her skull

specifically! But you are definately not too late!

Hi Leana, we stated treatment with neuro after her 12 mths check up

and she wore helmet from 13 mths to 17mths. we did get some

improvement but not as much as I wanted. Since then she now nealy 3

and we have had a little more correction as her head got bigger. its

not right but compared to how bad it was I should be happy. My

estimate of improvement from helmet is hard to guess because I was

never told but I would say 40 to 50 %. since then her hair grew in

and shes running around and my mind is not as focused in her

misshaped head and I learnt to accept it and I think sometimes i cant

even see it. I would reccoment cranial technologies as a place to

unterview and see what they say. Its free for a consult I think.

my email is lorrainesonn@... if you want more imfo.

Hi Leana:

My daughter began her DOCband treatment when she was 11.5 mos old.

Abby had severe plagio. She wore one DOCband for 4.5 mos & we got

good correction. Her head is still not perfect today, but the

DOCband did help her plagio significantly.

Beginning " older " , you probably won't get 100% correction, but my

feeling was any improvement was better than nothing. As long as

Leana's sutures are not closed (which they should not be yet) you

could still get improvement with a band at this age.

Good luck with the surgeon next week. Please let us know how it goes

& what he suggests.

Leana,

We have had quite a few parents here whose child didn't start

treatment until later. And although they might not have received

100% correction, most were thrilled with the correction they did

get. And honestly, even those whose child starts treatment earlier

don't usually receive that 100%. 13 months is not too late to be

starting, you still have a great window of opportunity for the band

to work. Good luck to you and be sure to keep us up to date.

Hi LC & welcome to our group!

NO, it is not too late! Is Sydney's plagio severe? My daughter Abby

did not begin her DOCband therapy until she was 11.5 mos of age, she

had severe plagio & we were still able to achieve good correction

with the DOCband made by Cranial Technologies. Abby wore one DOCband

from 11.5 mos - 15.5 mos of age. Her head is not perfectly round but

it is SO much better than it was before we had her banded.

We also have many other members past & present who have

banded " older " and have still rec'd good improvement. It is true

that you most likely will not get 100% correction, but you could

still get correction.

Are you still trying to get an appt scheduled with a specialist? If

the appt they do get you in for is a month or more away (which they

usually are), ask to be placed on a cancellation list so they can

call you if they get a cancellation for a diff. day.

Where abouts do you live? If you are near any Cranial Technology

locations, most of their clinis offer free evaluations. Their

webpage is www.cranialtech.net to look for locations.

Welcome again to the group! Please keep us updated on whatever you

find out. We're glad you have found us.

LC,

Unfortunately, your story isn't all that uncommon. So many of us

here have heard the 'it will round out on its own' line. The good

news is, even though Sydney will be one this month, its not too

late! The DOCband is effective on children up to the age of 24

months, and the STARband is up to 18 months. Progress may be slower

since she won't be hitting the growth spurts as quickly, but there

will be improvement. There are quite a few members who have had thei

child banded later, hopefully they will chime in and you give you

their personal experience. Since time is of the essence, when you

make the appointment with the specialist, ask to be put on a

cancellation list so that they might be able to get you in sooner.

Good luck to you and Sydney, please keep us up to date!

Hi LC,

We just banded our almost 19 mo. son 2 days ago. Yes, we know he's

older than the 'norm' but we were told we may still get notieable

results. We are being realistic though since he's older and may only

see 10 % improvement (or we may not see improvement at all). His

plagio is a mild to moderate case and our ped also advised us to let

it shape out, which it did quite a bit. There was just a little part

of us that thought if we could still do something, then why not try.

We have been happy so far with Cranial Tech. (we live near Dallas so

we go there). We do not know what the results will be, so this may

not help you at all, but just to know there are older kids getting

banded and we are hopeful to get results!!
