Guest guest
I've been using " Nature's Bounty " from Walgreens. (The smallest I've found is 400mg -maybe you'd want to break them in half to start wioth, I have no idea what progression will work best for you.) As I understand the main thing is is to get vitamin D3, also known as " cholecalciferol " . Is never seems to say D3 on the lable but you can check the " supplement facts " label to see that " cholecalciferol " is the form listed. Guest guest
D3 comes by the International Unit (IU). I went up incrementally from 1000 IU per day to the current 4000 IU per day. in Champaign IL > > At the advice of a doc, I went from NO vitamin D suppl. to 5,000 mcg/day in > one fell swoop with no side effects. > > mjh > " The Basil Book " > _http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/_ (http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/) > > Posted by: " bob niederman " _bobn1955@... _ > Thu Sep 7, 2006 5:25 am (PST) > I've been using " Nature's Bounty " from Walgreens. Guest guest
I take 2 to 3k units a day of Vit D and feel nothing, but if it's good for bones then I'm there cuz I'm 55 now and haven't shrunk 1/32 of an inch in height. A lot of my friends certainly have. foxhillers@... wrote: At the advice of a doc, I went from NO vitamin D suppl. to 5,000 mcg/day in one fell swoop with no side effects. mjh " The Basil Book " _http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/_ (http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/) Posted by: " bob niederman " _bobn1955@... _ (mailto:bobn1955@...?Subject= Re:%20Vitamin%20D%20help:%20how%20much,%20and%20what%20kind?) _bobn1955 _ (bobn1955) Thu Sep 7, 2006 5:25 am (PST) I've been using " Nature's Bounty " from Walgreens. It's interesting and very good idea. nina_infinite <nina_infinite@...> wrote: I want to start taking Vitamin D with calcium as suggested by Ken Lassesen on on his web site. Guest guest
hi u want to take d3 form vitamin d ....i am ok on capsules easier to absorb by the body than tablets but some people cannot tolearte this and use other forms.. being a super sensitive pwc , i started @ 50 mg per week but my dose is at the low end and most people started much higher than me ........ for me it made me very hot and can raise your temperature alittle to alot. ..works like a hormone in the body though is classified as a vitamin ..i found it easier to take divided doses thruout the day along with bone suppliment forumlas...alot of discussion about what is needed besides calcuim and magnesium... your minimial goal is 2000 i.u vitamin d 3 daily ... most mds ignorant of the widespraed vit d deficincies espeically among chroncially ill people, elderly and darker skinned people. most important part is that your md takes the rite test for vit d which is the 25, oh hydroxy form .. most mds take the wrong test 1, 25 vit d form test as its usually on the form , easier to handle and not aware that the 25 , oh hydroxy form is the more accurte one. after a year or so i have worked my vitamin d up to 2000-2500 i.u a day from all sources ( multi vitamin , bone forumla ) and take one in the afternoon and a final dose at bedtime along with my bone forumla . ...most formulas dont conatin enuf vitmain d 3 so i had to buy a small inexpensive bottle just of vit d 3 capsules. to bring up my dailly dose more medical journals are starting to write commentary of the need for more vitamin d ... but the offical standards rda s in the us still are way too low...: shame . sad part is that i have osteoporosis and the md who does the bone density for me had never done a vitamin d level till ken( moderator) brought it up as an issue. having kidney promblems .i am at the upper limits of what is safe for me to take but some people have gone higher than that.. from my increased vit d intake i have seen my vitamin d levels slowly rise... it will take me several years at this rate to reach normal levels.. i am taking a repeat bone density in two weeks and it will be interesting to see if my osteoprosis is better with a higher body level of vitamin d good luck tealk Vitamin D help: how much, and what kind? I want to start taking Vitamin D with calcium as suggested by Ken Lassesen on on his web site. What is the lowest dose I should begin with as I work my way toward the recommended 2,000 IU? Guest guest
There's a very good study by a Dr. Vieth about vitamin D. You can google his name and vitamin D to read about it. I think you might be surprised. " Adrienne G. " <duckblossm@...> wrote: I am glad you vit d levels rose. Did that make any difference in symptoms? Adrienne Vitamin D help: how much, and what kind?
