Guest guest
Yes I saw it on the network news. Of course the newspeople called it " chronic fatigue " , but so does everyone else. The good news is that the woman from the CDC said: " People genuinely are suffering and there are things we can do to genuinely help them, " says Dr. Gerberding, who heads the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). " And we need to take this seriously as a real illness for a lot of people. " She did not seem to be implying that they need to help us get over our unfounded belief that we are sick. The other good thing was that the PWC they profiled was not someone who was working full time or playing pro athletics. It was a woman who had started a career as a lawyer but had been unable to work for 13 years, I think. We've still got a long, long way to go, but this is good news. Guest guest
Dan-did u happen to see the piece last night on the NBC nightly news? The PWC that they interviewed looked fine, was very articulate and was walking around with a cane, but nonetheless walking. Actually she looked pretty good. I am glad we got some national coverage, but I think it would be much more helpful to show someome like me during a relapse, when I hadn't showered for three days, lying in a dark room w/ a pillow over my head. Or to show someone like you or me who has lost 1/3 of their body weight w/ serios muscle wasting. BTW, our local NBC affiliate in Dallas did a short piece on CFS tonight. This is all about the new CDC 'awareness' campaign that that is described at http://www.cdc.gov/od/oc/media/pressrel/r061103.htm. I hope it does some good. The treatment section in the link above is what bothers me. It is hard to believe that 20 years after the Nevada outbreak that we are still seeing awareness campaigns and prevalance studies instead of some serious research into treatment. The CDC did an awareness campaign about 10 years ago w/ a satellite video feed to various parts of the country. I hope I didn't burst your bubble, this might be the CDC doing their minimum.
