Almost everyone who uses the DOCband LOVES it! It is very, very rare to hear

bad reports regarding the DOCband or the Cranial Tech clinics. Personally my

daughter wore a locally made helmet (not a soft helmet) that was passive in

design. It did not apply active pressure like the DOCband, but it was rigid

in design.

2. Has anyone heard of this soft helmet? That is being suggested by

a doctor in Winston-Salem who is a cranio facial specialist. They do

not believe in applying pressure to the baby's head as the doc band

does. The doc band sounds so great and I have heard of wonderful

results, but I haven't read anything about the soft helmet.

I have heard of members of this group using the soft helmet, but primarily

for help with repositioning. I think this would be most effective in very

young babies who have mild plagio. For moderate to severe cases and for

babies that are older I would want a band or a rigid helmet. You might search

our archives to see what you can find there regarding the soft helmet. It has

been discussed in this group on at least two different occassions that I can

recall.

3. Is there anyone in the group in my area?? We are active in the

torticollis and craniosynostosis groups and have found wonderful

support locally from them, but would love to meet some plagio parents

also! >>

I'm not from NC, but we do have some members who are. I think you will find

this to be an incredibly supportive group. In my 1 1/2 years plus that I have

been a member here I have received all the support, advice and friendship

that I needed. The moms, dads and professionals here are the best around! I'm

glad you have joined our group and I hope you will let us know how things

progress for you. When will you know if cranio can be ruled out. I'll be

keeping my fingers crossed for you on that! Best wishes to you and welcome!

Christy,

I live in

Concord, so I am in your area.  My son,

ph, is now 7 months old and we will be getting our DOC band tomorrow

morning at 8:30.  I am glad we are

finally getting it – I have been losing sleep over this for months.  I will keep you posted on his progress in

the DOC band.  (My email is sstiles@...  and telephone is 704-786-6705 if you want to correspond directly.)  is nice and young!!!!!  I sure wish we had done something at 4

months – we would already have over three months in the band already!  Oh well.

We really

didn’t research bands/helmets enough and took what our doctor said without

question (in terms of band choices), so I really can’t help you with the soft

band.  I get the general feeling,

though, that there are many different types of bands that work as long as the

doctors keep an eye on how the correction is progressing.  Hopefully, someone else has experience with

the soft band and can help you.

’s

torticollis has improved, and we never did get a pt.  We’ve had so many problems with insurance that we’ve had to pick

and choose the things we can pay for – and right now, it’s the DOC band.  We have been stretching at home and doing

what we can do about repositioning him at night (virtually impossible now that

he is almost crawling).

Let me

know if you want to meet at a park or play area sometime.  I also have two other children (Emma – 4 years

and Aiden – 2 years), so they would each have a playmate!

Hi i am a little late with checking posts but I am in

the fayetteville area and have to travel to Charlotte

weekly for my daughters DOC band adjustments. She has

only been in her band for about 2 weeks and so far so

good. But I really am just new to this so not much

advice as far as soft helmets.
