- Your style of helmet sounds a lot like the one Grace is in. When we first brought her home in it my mom said it looked like a little bike helmet. And that is what others have said. She has been in her helmet since she was 3 1/2 months old (in helmet for 2 1/2 months). We have had very good luck with this helmet. It is locally made at Primary Childrens Hospital. The rounding started right away. The style of her helmet is so that it allows for space in the back for the head to fill in but also there is slight pressure on one side of the helmet to help her head where it had begun to drift due to her torticollis and her head was always tilted to one side. If you have any questions feel free to email me hags1@.... Maybe I can help you! Thanks and Grace

Using a helmet, not a DOC band

Hi ,

I'm from Monroe MI, but sorry I can't help you out about the band. We drive to Cleveland for the Doc band. Hopefully somebody else will know something about it.

Hi- I'm new to the group. My 7-month old daughter is getting a "helmet" from Uof M Hospital on Thursday. I've read lots of info on the DOC and STAR bands, but not much on these helmets. The one I saw at the dr's office looked like a tiny bike helmet. Any other parents who are using this device? Thanks! form MichiganFor more plagio info

Hi ,

Hi and welcome to the group. I'm pretty new myself. My 81/2 month old son has been in his helmet about 2 weeks. We got it through Children's Hospital in Boston, not the DOC or Starband. As far as I can tell, these locally made helmets are the equivalent of generic brands at Walgreens. What really matters (I think) is that the Orthotist is experienced and knows how to fit the helmet properly, what to look for, etc. After 2 weeks we've already noticed a big difference, so I feel confident that we're in good hands. You can probably do some research on-line about the company that makes your helmet (the hospital most likely contracts it out to a private orthotic company). You can also call the person who did the casting to ask them how many helmets they've made, what type and degree of correction to expect, etc.

I was also worried about not having a "brand name" helmet, because there is so much info on the DOC and STAR bands, but we've been very happy with the results so far. I hope all goes well with you and your daughter's helmet...I'm sure it will all be worth it.

Hi ,

My name is Helen and my 6 month old daughter,

will be getting her helmet on Friday. We live in

South Lyon, Michigan and she is also getting her

helmet from Danmar products in Ann Arbor. I also was

wandering why I heard so much information on the bands

rather than the helmets. It is my understanding after

talking with the physical therapist that the passive

helmets work well with younger children. We had to

make a decision in about a month after was

diagnosed at 5 months. I hope all goes well with her

fitting tomorrow. We will be next! Please let us

know how it went.
