New Delhi, March 30: Seven years in the making, the film AIDS: A Closer Walk by Academy award nominee ilheimer will have its India premiere on Thursday, April 1, at 7 pm at the Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre. The film which shows interviews of 85 people from all over the world is a tale of Humanity's confrontation with the epidemic. It explores the intricate relationship between the disease and the social condition of its victims and suggests that the harsh reality surrounding AIDS is just another expression of the inequalities and discrimination that predates it. Begun by Bilheimer and Mann in 1996 — Mann died in a tragic plane crash in 1998 — the 85-min-long film has been made at an expense of $2 million and was funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and General Motors Corp. Its being brought to India by the Action India Trust in association with New York-based Ashraya and World Wide Documentaries. The film, shot on locations around the world including India and Africa, won critical acclaim in the United States when it opened there a few months ago. http://cities.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=80336
