Tyler's Surgery

Hi everyone. It has been a while since my last post. we have had a

lot going on. 1st thing is that Tyler just celebrated his 1st

birthday on february 21st. He was a happy little munchkin in his

happy day.

Tyler just had surgery on wednesday the 27th. His Neuro-Surgeon at

NYU placed a small catheter into one of the ventricles in his brain

to measure intra cranial pressure. The stay in the hospital took a

very big toll on me because he had so many wires of all sorts hanging

off him, that every minute he was awake he had to be in my arms. The

most important wire was attached to the catheter in his brain and

even though he had mitts on his hands by the 2nd day he pulled the

plug out several times. He was so unhappy because he recently learned

to crawl and he was restricted from everything.

The worst part happened at 4:30 this morning, when i woke up to him

screaming. He had managed to pull the entire catheter out of his

head. He was wearing like a turban wrap so he could'nt really touch

it so he may have rolled in his sleep and goyt tangled, but the

moniter was reading negative #'s and i knew that could not of been

good. Everything was and is ok, the monitor can't be placed back in

without another surgery but it was due to come out today anyway. The

overall stay was pleasant and the PICU nurses were really good.

We are home now and hes a little cranky but we will get through it.

There is one thing that i am excited about, when i read my e-mail

this morning they told me that Tyler made it to the final round of a

photo contest that he's in. If any of you have the time go in and

vote for him please. He's the only baby in a helmet!!

Speaking of the helmet, that wont be able to go back on until the

stitches come out in 2 weeks. He was actually due to graduate that

stepping stone around his 1st birthday so i'd imagine that it may not

even go back on. We'll see.
