Guest guest
Hello. My son was 11 months when we got his helmet. He is in a passive helmet, and the correction is OK. From what I have learned from this group is that the older the baby, the more useful an active band would be. The only advice that I can give you is that if his head does not naturally round out, you will probably feel many regrets. The helmets and bands do not hurt, so you might as well try to get as much correction that you can before it is too late. It literlly took my son less than 5 minutes to get used to it, and he NEVER has had trouble sleeping in it. My son has to wear his for a year, which I was naturally upset about, but if we would have decided not to do it, this same year would have passed anyway, and my son would still have a flat head. Not only do I have no regrets doing it, but if I did'nt do it, I know I would be kicking myself for it. Lori.
Guest guest
Hi. My son Austin is 5 1/2 years old and was not treated with a band or helmet (we were not aware of this treatment at the time). I will say that his head did not "round " out all the way, but it did improve. I have pics posted in his album. Just click on "Austin" in the photos link on the plagio site. He also does not have any developmental problems at all. I would try to use your own judgement. It is nice to know that there is treatment for this. If we wouldve been aware of the bands when he was younger We more than likely would have had him wear one. Good luck in your decision. Kathy in MD Mom to Austin and Jillian Anyone have success with just waiting for the head to round out? Does anyone have success waiting 3 or 4 years for the head to round out? I was told by three doctors (one a pediatric neurosurgeon) that my son's plagio is mild and that it will round out on its own by the time he is three or so. He is now 15mos. A helmet seems so extreme and the doctors don't recommend it. They seem to think it will take care of itself. My concern is that my son's slightly moved ear won't move back and his head won't round out. Everyone seems to have used a helmet and I don't want to look back at what I could have done if things don't improve like the doctors tell me.Thanks, K.For more plagio info
