Guest guest
I just posted a message titled KAISER a few minutes ago. We are at 14 1/2 months and just getting going now with the DOC band for our daughter. If you are concerned in any way, I would encourage you to persue it, as the clock is ticking. All our pediatricians, specialists, etc. kept telling us that it would correct itself, but all the studies we have found on the internet suggest that it won't. I don't understand why everyone on the planet is so against treating this condition. It is a REAL problem, and if we can inform others through our mistakes, our hope is that others can make an informed decision. Best of luck. > Does anyone have success waiting 3 or 4 years for the head to round > out? Guest guest
My daughter is a Doc grad and we dident get full correction. She now 3 and I dont think her head has changed much naturally since graduation. It doesent show as much because shes running around, I'm not thinking about it as much and her hair grew more. It still is not right and never will be. I would go for a Crainial technologies evaluation and ask for their opinion. With us they were honest and not pushy. What they said turned out to be the truth. I was hoping for a natural correction so I waited till 12 mths, we started at 13 mths. I wasted valuble growing time witing for nature. These helmets do work. If you wait much more its too late. Lorraine. Mom to Mackenzie. > > Does anyone have success waiting 3 or 4 years for the head to round > > out? Guest guest
Hi K.: Welcome to our group!! Most Drs. say a child's head will round out on it's own by the time they reach age 2. This is because the child's sutures permanently close by age 2 on average. After the sutures close, odds are that the head will not do any more self correcting because there is no way for the skull to round out any longer. My daughter's plagio was severe, so we decided to get her a band so I cannot answer your question if hers rounded on it's own. But, she has been a DOCband grad for 8 mos already and I can tell you I have not noticed any addt'l improvement to her head since she wore the band. Has your son's head shape improved any over time? If you would desire, you could still use a DOCband until a child reaches age 2. After a child turns 2, a band will no longer help. Welcome again - we're glad you joined us.
