Guest guest
My son was banded with the STARband on 1/28, so it's been about 6 weeks now. He'll be 8 months old Friday. I see very slight correction in the form of slight rounding of the back of his head--it was totally flat; he has brachycepahly. The rear height of the head is still much taller than the front; I see no correction there at all. Over the past two weeks he has developed a pointiness on the top of his head, in the area where the hole in the STARband is, almost like a cone head. I pointed it out on our visit to our orthotist on Friday the 8th. He was concerned also and called Orthomerica while I was there. They seem to think that the band was a bit too loose with the last adjustment and may have been sliding forward a bit, causing the top of the head to mold up against the hole in the helmet. I have an appointment again for Monday the 18th. The helmet has been adjusted so it's not so loose, but I feel like I am trading one freakish head shape for another. Orthomerica also said if it is not any better on the next visit probably we will have to have another band. My insurance paid all but $200 for this band, but I don't think I should have to pay anything for a second band since it was not my screw-up, really I'm not sure whether to blame the orthotist who has 20 years experience or Orthomerica. As a matter of fact I wonder if I should get a lawyer involved for malpractice? Shouldn't I be seeing good correction by now at the six week mark? Has anyone else had their child's head take on a weirder shape during the correction process?
Guest guest
Dianne, We have had discussions in the past about cone shapes happening with the bands. If your baby's head is growing very fast it may be that he will need a new band at some point. If you have serious concerns about the shape then make an appointment with the ortho right away to discuss your concerns and get his/her input! Guest guest
I would definitely call your ortho and get an appointment. You may need a new helmet- I don't think that it should be growing in the shape of a cone. Please let usknow what he says. Thanks Beck
