Guest guest
Hi Sue, We live on the South Shore in MA and have been going through NOPCO at Children's for a couple of months now. We have had great experience and results with them. They make a passive helmet, that looks a lot like the band, open on top and no chin strap. We have Harvard Pilgrim HMO and they covered 80% without any issue, for which I am very grateful! My son was fitted at 4.5 months and now, at 8 months, we are hoping we have 2 more weeks to go and we have about 85-90% correction. We have been going in every 3 weeks for checks, and we have always seen Mike who has been so much more than fantastic through this process. Have you had the casting done yet? Where in MA are you from? ~, 's mom Plagiocephaly - Nopco in Boston? Does anyone have experience with nopco in Boston. They are making my sons helmut and I have no idea what it is going to look like and if they are a reputable company. I was only familar with Cranial Tech DOC band- Any help would be appreciated - Sue For more plagio info
Guest guest
Hi - Thank you so much for replying. We went yesterday to New England Medical Center and went to nopco right across the street (for the casting) I think it is on Washington St. We live in Wilmington Ma. We weren't impressed with nopco - it was in the basement and they didn't show us any pictures or anything. I like the bands but he said something about a chin strap and I just know my son will hate that (he hates hats that attache under the chin) so that was my concern. Did you decorate the band yourself? We hope he will be out of it by early July but I think we might be being unrealistic. Is this the nopco you went to or is there one near childrens? Thank you so much- Sue > Hi Sue, > > We live on the South Shore in MA and have been going through NOPCO at > Children's for a couple of months now. Guest guest
Hi Sue: Welcome to our group! We're glad to have you. How old is your son? I am sorry to hear you weren't impressed with your visit to Nopco. I am glad to see another of our members has used Nopco to give you some information. Not all locally made helmets have chin straps. Would your son's HAVE to have a chin strap to keep it on? If not, then see if they would remove the strap. Does the orthotist who will be treating your son have experience using their helmet? You might want to consider interviewing him to verify he is experienced. You can ask for references and pictures of patient's he has treated. Also, check out www.plagiocephaly.org then click questions for the Dr. - there is a list of good questions to ask both your Dr. and your orthotist who will be treating your son. A good orthotist is the key to having a successful helmet. We look forward to hearing more from you, welcome again. Guest guest
Sue, We went to the Nopco in Childrens. It's on the lower level, and not the most glamorous place, but everyone there has been very nice and have had the patience to answer my hundred million questions. We also went with the Patriots logo on the back- I expected something different, but the logo is a picture on the Pats helmet on the back, and then the front and sides are the plain off-white color. We have been decorating it with stickers, and as they start to lift off we just consider it time to redecorate. I felt that the stickers made a huge difference, both to myself and strangers we would meet. It just softens the looks and makes him seem more approachable by people in a positive way. They only other babies I've seen in helmets are from pictures through this website and those at Nopco their for their checks at the same time we are there. At nopco, I have not seen any helmets with chin straps, but again, I haven't seen that many helmeted babies so they may offer both styles. We were told in the beginning to plan on 3 months. We're now in the 4th month with the end in sight. At our last appointment we could have decided to stop, but we are so close to 100% that my husband and I felt it was worth it to continue for a few more weeks. My son couldn't care less when it's on, so that has helped tremendously. Plus, our ortho recommended that we take it off whenever he eats, takes a bath, or goes 3 hours consecutively (with the exception of bedtime) for little breaks throughout the day. It was so hard for us in the beginning, and I can honestly say that the time has flown by and it has not been anywhere as rough as I had anticipated. Is Wilmington near West Springfield? ~ Plagiocephaly - Nopco in Boston? > > > Does anyone have experience with nopco in Boston. Guest guest
We had our son fitted for his helmet by Nopco in Boston and we are very happy. He goes to Burlington for his follow-up appointments since it is closer for us. Evan (8 months) has no problem wearing the helmet and we already notice improvement and it's only been one month.
