I have read through that group that a fever is a natural response and a good thing, I have always given Tynenol before when he had a fever is this not a good thing to do?? Last week we came in contact with a baby with RSV and I wonder if he has it now. His fever is now 101.6, does Tynenol interfere with the bodies natural response? Jen, Yes fever is natural and his is low.. relatively. Yes, tylenol, etc. interferes, so is not wise. Offer water, allow to play in a warm tub, etc all are good for him. Guest guest
Jen, Not giving Tylenol, Motrin or Advil was one of the hardest initial things that I had to relearn as a parent. It's hard to see our little ones suffering and these fever reducers have been marketed as harmless. I will NOT give it now. It's my belief that these meds only slow down the body's healing process and can, in certain cases, prove dangerous. Let the body do its thing! Make sure your child gets plenty of liquids and rest and just love on them a lot. Of course, we're not saying don't keep an eye out for strange things but most of the time these things don't happen. What you describe is not out of the ordinary for a little tyke of that age. It's hard on you and your child but it should pass in a few days. All three of my children have had RSV. One, my oldest, was hospitalized for it, but he was only 3 1/2 weeks old and had received steroid shots in utero for his lungs development (we thought he was going to be a preemie). They all got through it and the main thing was keeping them hydrated. Please keep us posted so hopefully some of the expert mamas out there can give you a hand! I'm still learning. LOL Hang in there, Sheri B. jen <jdesenf@...> wrote: Hi- Today my 20 month old son woke up with a 100.6 fever and a cough and runny nose, he just is not himself. Guest guest
Jen, Forgot to ask: has he received any shots in the last few weeks? We're not judging here - not at all - just that this could cause some reactions too. FYI: my two oldest are fully vaxed - before I knew better and my youngest had shots up to 9 mos. So I came into this game sorta late. Hopefully better late than never. Sheri B. Guest guest
I hold my little ones, if they'll have me, when they're with fever. I mean for long periods of time in the rocking chair or in bed while I humm and whisper sweet words of love and rub their backs rythmically. So healing for a lethargic child. I agree Sheri, not to mention that awful false sense of well being children get that only exhausts them more and prolongs the illness. Anita " Sheri B.
