Guest guest
Hi Dakota's Mom and Grandma! That is great that you are doing the tort stretches several times a day- its tiresome because you will continue to do it for a few months, but it will pay off! My son was dx with tort at 2 mnths (old members hear blah blah blah at this point and my ped also dismissed his flatness at his 4 month check up. I went to CT on my own for a free eval. and a week shy of turning 5 mnths, he was in the band. This was not my ped's recommendation, in fact at the 4 mnth check-up she told me the ears misalignment was an optical illusion. The best way I found to check the ear asymmetry is at bath time: totally wet hair down and look from above- take your index finger on each hand and place gently in the center of the ear- you will see from above if one finger is more forward or not. I found that nothing worked to keep him off that flat spot, and I gained such peace of mind getting the DOC band so I could concentrate on the tort while the DOC band worked on the ear, facial, eye asymmetry. I would highly recommend taking matters into your own hands, at this great age, and looking into a free eval. if you feel your concerns are not being addressed. I can't tell you how often my ped NOW tells me I made the right decision! Good luck and if I can answer any questions about our experience, please feel free to email me. The fact that you are here online researching this puts you and Grandma way ahead of the game on many aspects, take advantage of this and do your own homework, whether you learn that banding is or is not for you, it will give you peace of mind knowing that you were your child's best and only advocate in making the right decisions for your child! All the best, ' Mom (tort resolved, DOC grad)

We are trying to document Dakota's head shape, and are not sure the best way to take pictures that show the severity!! I found that the best way to take the pictures was from the top of his head. That showed the misalignment of his ears pretty well. When I first took Mikey in at 3 months and mentioned the shape to his ped, she just brushed it off. Then I came across this loop and got valuable advice. At his 4 month checkup I mentioned the misalignment of his ears and showed the ped and she finally gave me the referral. And it still took 5 months to get the appt, get insurance pre-approval, get casted and get fitted. Ugh... Anyway, look at the top of Dakota's head, do his ears seem to be even on either side? I'd start there and then try to document any bumps or flat spots. If you see a flat spot on one side, look for the bump on the opposite side.Good luck. Guest guest
Hi ladies, I was talking about a free evaluation offered by Cranial Technologies. They manufacture the DOC band- will send you a link to their website which will also show all locations. Hope this helps!! I figured, hey, it was FREE, why not! But call in advance to verify this with the location you choose- I think someone here ended up paying for it at a location.
