Guest guest
Hi my name is and my daughter la was finally diagnosed with plagiocephaly 2 months ago. She is now 9 months old. We were sent to craniofacial surgeon who told us she needed to get a DOC band..well my insurance just denied us. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get them to ok it when I appeal?I am so sad to finally get someone to recognize her head shape only to be denied by my insurance!!! TIA~
Guest guest
Hi & welcome to our group! I am glad to hear your daughter will soon be getting a DOCband . It sounds like you had to work hard to get her the attention she needs! What insurance do you have? Unfortunately, many many ins. companies deny coverage of these needed bands & helmets. Insurance fights are a common topic in our group, I am sure many other parents will give you good advice & tips for your appeal. My advice, is to fight fight fight - don't give up!! Ins. companies want you to accept " no " for an answer & move on. Many of our parents have appealed & appealed to finally get their child's band covered in the end. You might want to check out http://www.plagiocephaly.org/support/compare.htm for some helpful insurance information - the link I just pasted will take you to a different section, but click on " insurance issues " for the information you might need. Has la (Love the name!) been casted for her DOCband yet? Welcome again! Debbie Abby's mom DOCGrad MI > Hi my name is and my daughter la was finally diagnosed > with plagiocephaly 2 months ago. Guest guest
--Hi and thanks for the welcome. I hope I am doing this reply the right way!! I have Cigna insur. Which I have been checking around and it seems common. No we haven't had her casted yet. Do you think there is hope cigna will change their minds?I am just so frustrated! I have not even seen the letter yet as to the exact reason for the denial. i called today just to check and was told it was denied. i called cranial tech and they are suppose to mail me an appeal packet. I have been looking at some of the files here as far as fighting insur. I just am clueless how to go about this. We have never had a problem with cigna before.I do plan on fighting though!!!!!Thanks for responding Debbie - In Plagiocephaly@y..., " debbieandabby " <dj2kirby@c...> wrote: > Hi & welcome to our group! > I am glad to hear your daughter will soon be getting a DOCband . > It sounds like you had to work hard to get her the attention she > needs! > What insurance do you have? Guest guest
Yep, you did your reply just fine . I just did a quick search of our group archive from Oct 2001 - today and found several Cigna posts - none of which were too friendly, hehe. Anyhoo, I did see one message where the parents fought & Cigna ended up paying for their child's band. If you'd like to see the post, type in the message box on the group home page message #28674 - " 28674 Cigna's Decision overturned...Thanks! " Maybe it will give you some helpful information for your appeal. If you'd like to search the archives, go to the group home page, click on the calendar with the # of messages for whatever month you'd like to begin your search (March 2001, or whenever), then type in " Cigna " in the search archive section, I hope I'm explaining that clearly, it sounds confusing but is really easy. Good luck Debbie Abby's mom DOCGrad MI > > > Hi my name is and my daughter la was finally > diagnosed > > > with plagiocephaly 2 months ago. She is now 9 months old. Guest guest
Tia, Welcome to the group! I'm sorry to hear about your denial. Unfortunately sometimes these things have to be appealed numerous times to get the claim covered. It shouldn't have to be that way, but it is. I would suggest checking out the files section of our main page for insurance help. There you will find a number of appeal letters that were successful and might help you get started. Good luck and let us know how things are going. Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma
