My twins are almost 16 months old and although they cruise, crawl (one of them uses his feet instead of his knees) and climb onto all of my furniture (including the kitchen table)they flatly refuse to walk on their own! I know that babies are usually on their own schedule, but if anybody has advice for encouraging them I would love to hear it!Jill Ramos, Las Vegas, NVFor more plagio info
Guest guest
The only thing I can think of, Jill, is maybe kneel to their level about three to five feet away and encourage them to walk to you. Other than that, I think they have to just do it on their own. kellie
Guest guest
Hi Jill, I used to be a nanny to a little boy like your boys. I used a chair with wheels and sat on it on a tiled floor, I then stood him up which he could do real well, and put a orange in my hand and made him step to reach and moved quickly so he had to do another step and so on. It worked and by the end of the night he could walk around the house. My kids were normal and did it on there own with no encouragement but they dident walk a whole room for a few days after their first step. Madison who's now nealy 4 walked at 7mths, shes very coordinated like her Dad, Mackenzie who's nealy 3 wlked at 11mths. I liked that Mackenzie was later because she wasent like a loose cannon like her sister. Madison fell at 11mths and needed stitches on her eyebrow running away from me... Guest guest
Jill- There was a boy in Gymboree class who was 17 months and not walking. Then one night at class he just ran from one end of the room to the other. Those were his first steps! It was hysterical! Do the boys get a lot of interaction with other kids their age. I thought if they didn't and saw their peers walking it would encourage them to put their feet forward (pun intended). Man,I can't believe Lorraine's daughter was walking at 7 months. I have never heard of such a thing! I would love it if Dane was an early walker. He is killing my back! I have to start using a sling. Good luck! Guest guest
Oh , please enjoy those carrying months. is now running around like a wild child, and most of the time, not wanting anyone to carry her. She's so independent, that if you pick her up when she wants to run, she'll scream. Use these months to cuddle, cuddle, cuddle, because soon.... sooner than you think, you'll be wishing back on these months. Guest guest
Kelli - I also have a 2 year old. I prefer the independence! I literally cannot care him much longer. He is so much bigger than our daughter was. I am supposed to be in physical therapy for my back because it is so screwed up from the pregnancy and carrying the little chunk around. Te sooner he'll walk, the happier I think he'll be a late walker though. He wants to be held all the time!
