Guest guest
Celeste: So the helmet your ins. company was talking about is the STARband - the STARband is made by Orthomerica. Guest guest
Celeste: Check out this site that gives you good information on the STARband. http://www.plagiocephaly.org/support/compare.htm You should definitely interview the orthotist who will be handling Madison's STARband. Make sure he has experience in treating plagio with the STARband - an experience orthotist is key to having success with the band. Ask for before & after pics of some of the other babies he has treated. in the above website, there's also a section called " questions for the Dr " - check that out as well for questions for the orthotist. Good luck! Debbie Abby's mom DOCGrad MI > Well I just got off the phone with the company who does the starband > here in Arizona and Madison has a appointment on Monday. Guest guest
Celeste, Both of my twins wore a STARband, and I am very pleased with the results that we have received. The STARband is very similar to the DOCband in the fact that both of them have an active design; meaning that they both apply minimal pressure to the rounded parts of the babies head while encouraging growth in the flattened area. I can't stress enough though that the key to having success with any device, whether its the STARband, DOCband or a locally made helmet, is an experienced ortho. Be sure to ask your ortho lots of questions. I was very fortunate to have an ortho who had 20 years experience under his belt. Good luck on Monday and please let us know how it goes! Guest guest
Niki, How long where your twins in their Starbands? They did tell me on the phone that they have lots of pictures of children that have worn the band. They seemed really really nice on the phone hopefully it will be the same when I actually go in. I have printed out the questions to ask the ortho from the plagio site. Guest guest
Celeste, The twins were just about 8 months old when we received their bands. My son Danny had mild/moderate brachycephaly, and he wore his STARband for 3 months. My daughter Kaylie had mild plagio with slight facial assym. She wore her band for 4 months. I couldn't be more thrilled with the results that we have received. I'm so glad to hear that so far your orthotic company seem like nice people. Its a good idea printing out all those questions to ask, if you're like me, you'll be so nervous that you might forget a question or two! Good luck on Monday!!
