Guest guest
Hello all. I have been gone from this board for about 6 months. My daughter now 18 months wore a DOC band for 4 months starting when she was almost 8 months. She had a pretty good result. Here head is still a little flat on the right back but you really only notice it when you look down on her head. She was adorable in the DOC band, and never even noticed it was on her head. I was glad we did this, but now that I have another baby I really don't want to go through this again. He is 2 months old, even though I have been giving him lots of tummy time, using no swings, using car seat only in the car, using bouncy chair a little bit, and repositioning from the first week, his head is pretty flat on the back and slightly assymetrical. YIKES!! Of course now we are really repositioning more, which is difficult at daycare, but they all took care of and her helmet so they know I really want them to be careful of his head, etc. Sorry to ramble but I guess that my kids are more prone to this. I see some parents that keep their kids in the stroller and on their back so much more and they don't have any problem with this. Anyway I was wanting to get some discussion going to see if anyone else had their other children develop plagiocephaly. Are some families more prone to this? And I would love to hear about some repositioning success stories. I lurked daily before got her DOC band, and posted a few times. I really thought this was a great group, very supportive. Thanks so much to all of those parents who went through this a couple years ago for sticking around and helping those of us new to this and/or going through it again. , from Houston wore doc band 5/2000 to 9/2000, now 18 months old Drew, 2 months old
Guest guest
Hi : Welcome back - although I know you wish you weren't back in here to discuss your new son's plagio as well . Congratulations on Drew! I bet you have your hands full with 2 little ones to care for. I don't remember ever hearing about 2 plagio siblings - outside of twins or other multiples. I do remember seeing some posts before about people worrying that IF they had another baby, if it would be prone to plagio like their 1st child was. I am sure you know what to do - it sounds like you're doing your best to keep Drew from getting flat. But like we've said a million times, some babies are prone to plagio where others aren't......it really makes NO sense. Good luck with repositioning & stuff. Hopefully Drew will outgrow it in the next couple of mos., if not, then go from there. Congratulations again.....Please keep us updated. Guest guest
, By any chance do both your children have torticollis? That's the only thing I've heard, a family that had I think all three children with torticollis- which I don't remember if they all had plagio too. Sorry! Guest guest
Hi and welcome back! I only have one baby so I can't help you with the second child thing. I will say that my stepson has some slight assymetry and slightly misaligned ears so maybe the softness and malleability of babies heads is genetic to some degree. Have you checked out www.plagiocephaly.org/support? That has a section with some good tips on repositioning. Also, check out these websites - they have some repositioning aids that you can purchase: Butterfly pillow: www.snuglbuds.com, Boppy pillow: www.onestepahead.com, Repositioning aid: www.safetsleep.com. Hope this helps - in the meanwhile, keep on repositioning. Also you might have him evaluated to make sure he doesn't have any torticollis issues that need to be addressed! Good luck and keep us posted! Marci (mom to ) Oklahoma
Guest guest
Thanks you all for the responses back. My daughter had torticollis, we did exercises and she does have full range of movement, but she still tilts her head to the right slightly. Some days more than other days. Is it too late to start the exercises with her again?? She is 18 months old. I noticed my son had a definite preference to turn his head to the right from week one. I only see a head tilt when he is in car seat or bouncy chair so I try not to put him in those things too much. I occassionally do some neck stretches but I probably need to get more aggressive with it. Is torticollis genetic, or is it probably just their position in utero? When I was pregnant with each of my babies they dropped around 31 weeks, so my daughter spent 3 weeks down low and my son spent 6 weeks real low. Thanks again for all your help , mom to and Drew
