Guest guest
Hi everyone, We just got back from 's casting. I must say it was not as bad as I thought. The orthotist was very nice and knowledgable. It took 10 minutes to do and sat on my lap the whole time. He was more upset with me having to hold onto his hands (so they wouldn't get into the plaster). The procedure was not very messy...just a quick wipe of the head afterwards and voila! I can't tell you how relieved I am that he will finally get his helmet. The orthotist couldn't understand why the specialist advised us against the helmet. He said that we can expect at least 65% correction within the next 4 months. I'm so glad my mommy instincts were right on the money here. The helmet itself is cute. It looks like a hockey helmet...not too scary at all :0) However, I can't believe the misinformation that is out there. The orthotist told me that if he would have seen at 4 months then we would have had almost 100% correction. I was floored considering his ped. and the OT advised me that the orthotoist wouldn't even consider looking at until he was 6 mo. Needless to say I will be calling them to correct this piece of misinformation. As well, the orthotist believed 's head would probably not have rounded out anymore than it is now. Anyway, we'll pick up the helmet in 2-3 weeks. Will keep you posted. Dana(mommy to ) Ont.

Guest guest
Dana, I'm so glad to hear that 's casting is over and done with and that you will soon have the helmet! It seems that your ortho is very knowledgeable and helpful and that's great. Let us know when the helmet comes in!
