Guest guest
hi tara-- i have two children--one who is 2 and a half and one who is 4 mths old. we also considered not giving the vit k shot. i also had group b strep with both of my kids and had a few rounds of IV antibiotics while in labor. we see an autoimmune specialist (b/c my husband has ITP--blood disease that is autoimmune) and this dr also does some homeopathic things with our kids for yeast and colds and stuff. anyways, i asked him the question about the VIT K and he strongly suggested we get it. we went with his decision and gave it to both girls. we also do not vaccinate at all and i am not sure if we will ever but that is our next big step is to make a decision on whether or not to vaccinate at all! hope this helps! kim Tara Maue <orrin_reilly@...> wrote: I am pregnant and am considering not giving the Vitamin K shot. I have read some of the info about Vitamin K and am running into a question. With my last pregnancy my water broke early and they found I had strep B so they put me on antibiotics. It sounds like from some that I have read that the mother having the antibiotics might make it more neccessary for the Vitamin K shot. But I just am not sure if that is really the case. Any thoughts on this? I did read the info in the files section and some info that was posted earlier, so I am mainly looking for info to help me connect the dots for something that I might not have understood in my readings. Also, I am interested in others experiences on whether they gave the Vitamin K shot after reading the info and why they made the decision. I am just trying to come up with a situation where it might be recommended to give the shot. Thanks, Tara
Guest guest
If you can all avoid antibiotics - what insanity this strep b thing is. Many of the autistic children I see as a homeopath had antibiotic exposure in utero and at delivery. Man, they do everything to injure your children that they can. UGHHH!! my children are both fine--SO FAR. my two and a half yr old has NEVER been vaccinated and i don't know if we ever will b/c of my husband. he has ITP/Evan's syndrome which is autoimmune. we are for sure planning on having another child in a year or so and i was wondering your opinion on what to do about group b strep--should i refuse antibiotics?? what is the risk the baby will get it if i DON'T get them? thanks so much! kim Sheri Nakken <snakken@...> wrote: If you can all avoid antibiotics - what insanity this strep b thing is. Guest guest
Hey, Kim. You will have to OK this with your doctor or pick somebody different, but my doctor will allow me to refuse abx. HOWEVER, he said he won't release the baby or me for 48 hours. I am going to ask him why, but I am guessing it is too risky for physicians to do anything else (lawsuits or even a review by their own medical board). 1 in 200 babies will get GBS if the mother is positive and no abx given. The baby can get treated with ABX if they have a GBS infection (with a positive outcome in MOST cases), and most babies will show signs within 48 hours if they are going to come down with it. Due to overuse of two other minor forms of penicillin, and the resistant Group B Strep that developed from this, the standard is to treat with penicillin. Guess what is happening? You got it - penicillin resistant Group B Strep. There are factors that increase the risk of infection. If your fever is higher than like 100.4(I think) or your waters break and you are still in labor more than 10 hours later, or you are younger than 21 (why, I don't know) you have a higher chance of having a GBS infected baby. > > sheri-- > maybe you can help me out here! i had group b strep and was placed on antibiotics during labor. what would happen if i refused them? i know dr's usually don't tell the truth AND push you into the drugs. i also had pitocin AFTER birth and NOONE even told me they were doing it! i breastfeed so it went through my breastmilk!
