Guest guest
Mold problem — the truth behind the lies http://www.ledger-dispatch.com/opinion/opinionview.asp?c=156289 Wednesday, April 27, 2005 - By Dee -, Kirkwood This is in regard to the article about the mold problem at Argonaut High School. Due to an amateur attempt by one of your readers who has no expertise in fungal disease to profess that exposure to mold is somehow benign, I cannot watch innocent children exposed to toxigenic molds. The truth needs to be told by someone who was once as ignorant as Mr. Wells, and I embarrassingly admit that I am a nurse, who should have known better from the beginning. But at the time, I couldn't possibly believe that some indoor household molds could cause permanent neurological damage to my children. I thought if I couldn't see it, there is no way it could possibly harm my children. I think that's a pretty common assumption of the lay people of the world today. I was wrong. The middle school that my children attended had a mold problem due to a roof leak. We were warned of the problem after the fact. My twins were both diagnosed with mycotoxicosis (systemic fungal disease). Within six months both children suffered from bloody noses, acid reflux, asthma, and chemical sensitivity. One of my children has been recently diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis while both suffer from Fibromyalgia. By the time the school was announced a " health hazard, " bloody lesions were found in the stomach lining of my younger child during a routine test for acid reflux problems and an unexplainable digestive disorder. Both suffered from severe memory problems that I don't think they will ever recover. None of these illnesses run in my family or my husband's. The strange thing is that over 65 percent of the students at this school became ill with the same or similar problems, including several cases of multiple sclerosis (MS). Since I removed them from that school and they have been attending a new school, many of the original symptoms diminished but they will be forever damaged, mentally and physically. That is when I started researching this stuff. I discovered that the mycotoxins from some of the molds found at the school have been documented by the U.S. Army as weapons of mass destruction. The World Health Organization and Merck Manual have recognized and identified the neurotoxins found in many of these molds for years. Argonaut High School is doing the right thing and don't let the ignorant or biased people in the world tell you anything different. Mold is very expensive to clean-up and many people prefer to pretend it doesn't exist. My only reply can be that if the cruel naysayers of the world had their lives turned around by this devastating invader, they would stop playing ignorant and would truly understand. Do you think that businesses and homes nationwide are closing their doors just because they are caught up in the insurance companies " hype " and " hysteria " fad regarding mold? Give me a break. Some businesses have lost millions by closing their doors. They wouldn't do this because of a rumor with nothing to substantiate it! Mr. Wells, I know you probably mean well - unless you are in real estate, building or insurance and you are trying to brainwash an innocent community. But stating fiction as fact is unwelcome and unethical by all standards if it affects people's health. If you honestly believe that mold is only a " placebo, " I suggest that you do some research at the mold-help.org Web site and start reading some true facts about mold, including some of the double-blind study, peer-reviewed medical papers before you become liable for your misinformation and propaganda that you are disseminating with your letter. Even the most intellectual, unbiased experts know when they are just pulling things out of their hat. For more information, I suggest that everyone read some factual data on this subject and don't listen to ignorant people who have no education on the subject. Good luck to everyone. I hope that order is restored soon. The health of your children will be in my prayers.
