Guest guest
I had been thinking about all you have said about this. The British experience is understandable - Simon Wessley is fully in control there, and the psychiatrist reigns supreme over this illness and its victims. But the other experience with other sufferers - I think there are perhaps reasons that have nothing whatsoever to do with your truthfulness or willingness to be of service. Climbing mountains has virtually nothing in common with the average sufferer's experience. Most people in this country don't even live within view of a mountain. They didn't climb mountains, even when they were well. You might as well tell them you walked on the moon. If you mention camping and living outdoors, that too is outside many people's reality - but is something people in some parts of the country would never even consider anyway. North Georgia is a good example - it's a wet climate, and warm in summer. You want to roll around in some fungus, camping out is definitely the ticket! If the fungus doesn't get you, the copperheads will. A whole lot of soldiers tried that about 140 years ago, and the tales of both the chronic and outright fatal illnesses they picked up are nothing short of horrific. (Not all of that happened in POW camps - not by a long shot.) Then there's the " cut and run " idea. Sound advice, but people with families will have a big problem with that. Make your children homeless, and the State will take them away. And Granny isn't going to live in the car too successfully, either. They'll start weighing the known (to them) risks against any possible gains, and if they aren't quite at death's door yet, they're staying home. Instead, just like you say, people will go out and buy these hugely expensive dietary supplements and herbs based solely on a rumor from another patient, because said patient can dust around the house now. Or they'll hire a psychic healer over the internet. Or they'll take up yoga. They learned that A) they have some kind of unknown infectious disease or else are crazy; nobody in traditional medicine knows how to help them; C) They really just need to calm down, or they'll get sicker (the whole Energy Envelope thing) and D) just like we were saying here earlier - other people just don't get it at all. Not your friends, not your family. They just don't. So, the question doesn't come down to whether you know what you know, or whether people want to be helped. It more likely comes down to what they can really hear and understand. And the fact that they've been screwed over more times than they can count. And they really are drowning. But if they can grab a bottle of pricey vitamins easier than they can move outside and climb a mountain, they're naturally going to grab for what's closest to them. I think it almost requires a form of " stealth help " , you know? There are many things that float. Some of 'em don't smell real great, but a drowning man doesn't care about that. Guest guest
Oh - . Didn't mean to sound negative, though I probably did. You get max props from me for having hung in and tried so hard for so long despite all. Actually, I was just trying to noodle why they didn't seem to be getting your message and trying to think of some other kind of approach that might get it done. Still pondering...
