One South Dade Senior High student, who wanted to remain anonymous, said, " I've seen mold on the ceilings near the vents and it's really disgusting. It stinks in our rooms from the mold. " Another student, , said, " After Christmas break, we came back and there was, like, a mushroom, a fungus growing up from the floor in our portable. " A leaky roof is believed to be the reason for the mold. However, school officials say they never found any signs of water intrusion. Some teachers and students are blaming chronic illnesses on the mold. According to a nurse who talked with some of the teachers, they believe not much is being done to fix the problem because a new school is in the works. School officials say that's not the case. Miami-Dade school officials say they are looking into the possibility of mold in the school, and they have even gone as far as to order an indoor air quality test. Those results are not yet in.
