CRAWFORD, Texas Rocker Ted Nugent keeps expanding his audience, much

to his amusement.

He still shoots guns and shoots off his mouth, often in a profane

way. But he said he is amazed that more and more mainstream

Americans are embracing his views.

Topping the list is President Bush, who hugged Nugent at an election

party five years ago and told him to keep doing what he was doing.

Nugent moved to Crawford two years ago after mold invaded his home

in Michigan. But he didn't move there because of Bush. He likes the

size, the schools and, of course, the hunting.

He doesn't hang out with Bush, but the Secret Service is another

story. Several members recently used his sprawling ranch to unload a

few rounds from their automatic weapons. At taxpayer expense, Nugent

said with a laugh.
