Not only did about a dozen concerned parents show up, but so did the district superintendent, who wanted to stop the rumors before they got any worse. Goodman showed up at the meeting at Kids Kingdom Park because, she says, her fourth-grade son has been sick and on a number of medications since the day he started at Central Elementary. " (I) Want to go to the allergist and make sure it's true, because I do have three children there and he's been so sick lately, " she said. Several parents saw the same flier alleging black mold has been growing in Central Elementary since the school suffered some water damage about four years ago. " My kids have never been sick. I don't think there's a problem but I'm not an expert, " said Cromwell. " A lot of rumors-a lot of talk get to the bottom line. If it's been taken care of, they need to put the paperwork out where we can see, " said parent Jim Vance. That's just what Superintendent Hage did. " Assure parents that it's a safe and clean environment. If I could nip this in the bud showing the most accurate and current info, I wanted to do that, " she said. She brought test results from Nova Environmental, a group from Ann Arbor that has been called in to test the air quality in Central every three months since the school experienced the flooding. Tests in February came back negative. Nova determined any airborne mold and bacteria were not a health threat. Hage said she was happy to sit down with parents to show that there is nothing to hide. The author of the flier never showed up but the superintendent says they know who she is and plan to have a meeting with her next week to set the record straight.
