Guest guest
Actually its deep sea fish like tuna and sword fish that accumulate mercury and can be the health hazard. Tilapia is a tasty fresh water fish now farmed throughout the world. It is the fish of choice used in food for peace programs to teach third world natives how to increase their protein intake. Millions of dollars have been invested in central African countries to help starving folk develop tilapia fish culture ponds... Considered a most tasty and healthy fish.. While much tilapia is being farmed in in the southeast USA as well as the south central USA little of that is available in our northern states because of its local popularity. The tilapia New Yorkers and us from the mid-Atlantic consume come from Brazilian and central American fish farms and is considered very healthy. Ken ======================================= [] Re: cholestramine How often do you eat fish and aren't you concerned with the polluted waters and mercury problem? I do eat fish too about once a week but I feel like perhaps I shouldn't. Problem IS we have to stop polluting the environment and food supply or we won't have anything safe to eat anymore. It seems like that already. Chickens are given a product called > " mycosorb " , that as far as I can understand, does the same job as cholestramine, > otherwise chicken would be too toxic for anyone to eat, much less people in this group. Guest guest
Ken, I have not seen it here but will ask where I buy fish next time I go. I thought Mahi Mahi was a deep water fish from Pacific, right? I wondered why my doctor recommended it because it is fairly large fish , isn't it? I thought larger fish lived longer and therefore had time to accumulate more mercury. > Actually its deep sea fish like tuna and sword fish that accumulate mercury and can be the health hazard. > > Tilapia is a tasty fresh water fish now farmed throughout the world.
