Guest guest
is very nice. I've talked to her on the phone & recommended she read Dr. Shoemaker's book. Thank goodness she listened. You should contact her and maybe she would do an interview with more of us about our illness. It maybe worth a phone call. Take care, Sue PS I saw part of the Untold Stories of the ER on Monday but missed most of it. Let me know if it is aired again.

Guest guest
Hey, Saralee, I am glad that you were impressed with Dr. Shoemaker. I am going there next month. Did you find a fairly nice place to stay at a reasonable price? If I'm feeling like it, I would like to stay a few days since I have so far to travel. Kathyw Saralee Rosen <homerose@...> wrote: I originally joined this list last October to get info on mold remediation. I have since found it to be a valuable source of information regarding my personal health issues as well. Thanks also to Dr. Schaller's great input. I read quite a bit on this list about Dr. Shoemaker and when I read his book, I felt that he was talking about me. Anyway, I went down to land and saw him this past Tuesday. Not only was I impressed, but my husband, the skeptical actuary was as well! First of all, I have been sick with allergies, mold related issues and MCS for a number of years and have been progressively getting worse. I gave up on allopathic medicine many years ago when it could not help me at all. A variety of holistic therapies helped me to a certain extent, but over the past few years I have become more fatigued and had more problems with my MCS. I was so relieved to find that Dr. Shoemaker required that patients not wear perfume in his office - I felt I would be coming to a safe place. However, when I arrived at his office I smelled a very strong unidentifiable chemical smell and my eyes were burning. None of Shoemaker's office staff or my husband could smell anything. It turned out that the front of the building had had some recent storm damage and there was some " unscented " VOC chemical in the air ducts - leave it to me to be the one to notice it! When Dr. Shoemaker met with me, he was very concerned at my condition. He wanted to call off the visit, but I had come this far, and I decided to stick with it and suffer the physical consequences. He said my being sick for so long and my extreme chemical sensitivity put me in the category of being one of his most difficult patients - not something I particularly wanted to hear. He was incredibly honest, caring, and extremely professional and thorough. Because I had a past history of parasites (on top of everything else), he ended up doing extra blood tests on me. He took an unbelievable 20 vials of blood from me! He started me immediately on CSM - which should arrive from the pharmacy today. I must admit that I am concerned about the side effects. Dr. Shoemaker said that in my case the effects will last 3-4 weeks. He feels that when the tests come back, he will be putting me on other drugs, as well. Going from holistic treatment (which is a combo of alternative and allopathic) back to entirely allopathic treatment is a bit unnerving for me. But I want to get better and I am making the leap. I must say that I am so thankful that I am in a financial position to be able to afford this treatment. I think it is so unfair that most people who suffer from mold and MCS do not have the financial resources to get help. And I suppose this will continue until the medical establishment recognizes these conditions as " real. " Again thanks to all on this list for your help. BTW - if you go down to see Shoemaker there are some interesting places not too far from him, including a large NASA tracking station and Assateague and Chincoteague islands.
