Guest guest
Hey Tom, I seriously recommend you see an integrative MD, or naturopath.. I was literally brought back from the dead by mine. Like you, I catch/used to catch everything I came near, but with my ND's help I am so much better and if I feel something coming on I can usually cut it off at the pass. How to cut it off at the pass? At first sign, take 1000mg of L-Lysine 3 times a day. It took over a year to get me to feel this good and I still have bad days, sometimes weeks, but they are fewer and fewer between. Good Luck - Wendi Need Help for Immune System Hi All, I am one of the ME/CFSers who catches every virus I get near, literally. It is so bad that I really can't understand why I haven't been killed by some infection by now, but I suppose that will change in due time. In Natural Killer Cell tests I have tested normal count normal activity, low count normal activity, and normal count low activity at different times. These differing results don't seem to be related to how well my immune system functions in the real world. I have shown other immune system anomalies associated with ME/CFS in other tests. I take Proboost Thymic Protein A, arabinogalactin, olive leaf extract, vitamin D, and lots of Ester-C. I live in Tucson, AZ and have tried to find an immunologist who could help, but, believe it or not, have not found one who deals with this problem. Most have told me they just do allergies. Can anyone suggest something or a doctor who can help get my immune system working better? Thanks in advance. Tom
Guest guest
Dear Tom, I have had CFS for over 17 years now and just like you I catch things quickly. My problem is constant sinus infections. One tip that I can give you, is that we are more susceptible if we are tired or if we just exerted ourselves too much. Living with this disease means always watching how much we do and never crossing that line, because if we do,we end up getting sick. If you feel tired and can lie down, just lie down and let the body make itself stronger. Rest makes the immune system at least somewhat stronger. As to being killed by some infection, that is not going to happen. You and I don't have aids which destroys the immune system completely. Our immune system is suppressed and the now the trick is going to be how to get it going again. If you are at the beginning of your illness, that is if you have not been ill for years and you get the right treatment, chances are that you will make full recovery. I found the website www.immed.org to be helpful. Click on fatigue illnesses and read as much as you can. Mira From: tomcy6@... Guest guest
Tom, This may not be a popular suggestion here but you might want to discuss getting the flu shot with you doctor. A virologist I saw told me he gives alot of his CFS pts flu shots and they do just fine. I haven't gotten one this year because I already started getting too sick in October to get out to get one, like yourself I catch everything and this year is no exception- it's a real doozy. See my articles on " Colds and Flu " , also " Neti " , " Sinus Infections " , and integrative nutritional " Adrenal Support " , and " Basics " at url below. Even marginally low thyroid or odd cortisol levels/rhythms can foster what you're talking about. Thyroid has so much to do with immunity. Carol willis_protocols Articles in Files. Guest guest
Hi Tommy You may need to find a way to check if you are producing excess cortisol and if you do, find ways to control it. As you might already know excess cortisol suppresses the immune system. bw Nil Need Help for Immune System Hi All, I am one of the ME/CFSers who catches every virus I get near, literally. Guest guest
A couple of other things that really help. Never use a public pen to sign with. Always use your own pen from your pocket or purse. Also, when you go to the grocery store, clean the cart handles with antibacterial stuff or wipes (many stores provide them now). When our son was little he always got sick after a visit to the store until I started cleaning the cart with baby wipes. Just think about all the kids who snivel all over the grocery cart, or people who cough or sneeze or wipe their nose and then use the cart afterwards. I keep a small bottle of the instant hand sanitizer in my purse and use it often, whenever I go out and touch anything, door handles, cart handles, pens, etc. It works for our family. in La Selva Beach CA deb obrien wrote: > > hi tom - for several weeks now i've been using the xylitol nose spray > - from i herb - twice daily and i think it really does protect my > mucous membranes from some of these nasty bugs - i've also become a > better handwasher... > good luck, > deb > > Subject: Need Help for Immune System > > Hi All, > > I am one of the ME/CFSers who catches every virus I get near, > literally. Guest guest
Viruses can be picked up from surfaces. Wash your hands with soap and water if you go out, and carry alcohol-based hand cleaners with you to use when soap and water are not available. Avoid touching your face whenever possible when you are out or with other people. http://www.henrythehand.com/ > > I am one of the ME/CFSers who catches every virus I get near, > literally. Guest guest
You could try http://drsadilek.com/. Stoff, M.D., used to practice in Tucson, but I don't see current contact info for him. If he's still there, he would be good to see. You could try taking Iodoral, an iodine supplement that helps immune function. It's doing good things for me. Guest guest
Hi Tom Undenatured whey has helped me with this problem. It took me a quite a few months of detox reactions before I could tolerate it though Need Help for Immune System Hi All, I am one of the ME/CFSers who catches every virus I get near, literally. Guest guest
Hi , What brand of whey? What were your detox reactions? How much did you take? I tried taking whey, but think I started out too strong, and ended up asleep 11 hours/day with a strong sore throat for 3 weeks until I got overwhelmed. Guest guest
Hi Dan I took Immunepro rx and started at 1/4 teaspoon a day and I even herxed on that for about a month before I upped the dose. I can relate to the sleeping 11 hours a day and the sore throats as thats exactly how it was for me. Once I could tolerate the 1/4 tsp I upped it to 1/2 tsp and so on and now I take 4 full scoops a day ( I now use Source Naturals True Whey as its cheaper and seems just as good) When I was herxing on the whey I experimented with Liposomal glutathione and lactoferrin aswell at times to see if it was the gluthathione or the lactoferrin that was herxing me the most and I found that although the glut herxed me the biggest effect was from the lactoferrin. I later read that lactoferrin kills chlamydia pneumonia so I suspect thats what was happening. Re: Need Help for Immune System Hi , What brand of whey? What were your detox reactions? Guest guest
Thanks everyone for all the replies to my post. You have given me a lot to think over. I do want to say that I have been aware of the problem of picking up viruses from surfaces and have been very conscientious about sanitizing surfaces, washing my hands and keeping them away from my face. I can walk through a store with my hands in my pockets and still get sick. My problem is not that I'm picking up viruses by not being careful, it's that for some reason I'm just unbelievably susceptible to them. Thanks again.
