Guest guest
Okay, this is sort of tongue and cheek, but its a quick comeback, so excuse me for that. I think there is an element of human sacrifice and ritual-like behavior in what society is consciously doing, as far as the ways they subconsciously justify it to the insiders who object. We 'die' so that some 'greater good' can supposedly be achieved. Our economic and political system these days operates a bit like a pyramid scheme and in order for those higher up the chain to get paid, people lower down on the totem pole have to give it up. That is part of the unwritten deal between industry and government. It was actually spelled out explicitly by Cecil . In order so that government can be maintained in power, it must provide what industry needs to flourish, in the form of free or cheap labor and raw materials. Each power group must get their share, having bought in with that understanding, and these days, people who once were more influential in roles as workers, are now primarily only needed as consumers, so they have very little economic power. Since power determines who pays, and we having such little power it ends up being decided that we are the ones who must 'pay' we must be sacrificed so this can be achieved at the lowest possible cost (to them) In the past, this blood sacrifice was extracted from the colonial lands, but now, its extracted locally. The social contract that once prevented that, no longer does, so anything goes.
