Guest guest
That because I think you're drawing an inappropriate distinction between psychology and physiology. Theres no reason that something that effects say the autonomic nervous system pathways in the brain shouldn't also effect the emotional centers of the brain as well. These two areas are located very close to each other. You didnt get into CFS because you thought the wrong way or behaved the wrong way. You got into CFS problem because something caused damage to your brain which effected many different aspects of your body and your mind; from exercising to thinking to emoting as well. Curing is another matter. Can thinking in certain ways change the way the brain operates? Can it heal brain damage? I really dont know. Nor do I know if Amygdala Retraining is curative. I would be surprised at that but I wouldnt be surprised if it helps and thats pretty good in itself. I doubt that anyone who actually gets cured of this would really care if its 'psychological' or not. machteldmachteld <machteldh@...> wrote: > I agree , but only if you mean it in regards to CAUSING CFS/ME. If that weren't the case, then we'd all be able to handle any sort of emotional or > physical stressor with no problem, ?? If anyone was able to handle all sorts of stressors, than no one on this world would be ill or die. Emotions, thoughts and behaviour do affect your health and illness, but to what extent? That'll differ from person to person. It's very popular these days to blame everything on stress, but there's more to life/health than that. This retraining can probably help/cure depression and anxiety (because it is possible to alter the brainfunctions through CBT etc.), but it won't cure things like cancer, MS, HIV/AIDS, lupus, dementia or whatever. Even though the immunesystem is also involved in many of these diseases. To me that means that if amygdala-retraining cures you (which is nonetheless great), your recent illness-state was psychological. --------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
Cort, I agree with you. I do not care a bit what labels are put here and there as long as it works!!!! I owe it to myself to try what seems to work for several people and has not risk to me. I have had this disease for 15 years! I will critically look at everything myself. The theories are most likely incomplete. But if something works it does not make the theory right! It is most likely a very primitive model who is partial as can be. The key is, that if something ends up curing CFS that something in itself has value, and most likely only partially understood by the theory that proposed it. I refuse to close my mind to anything that has been shown to be beneficial to anyone. Gupta posted in this list in 2000. He was just one of us guys, trying to get out of the hole. I saw that post and it went off my radar then. Eight years later he is one of few who state to be 100% better. I believe that whatever he did to himself helped to improve him. So I will try it! I you or told me " hey I am better, this is what I did " you bet I would try it too (most likely I did, considering how much info we share in this list). > > > > That because I think you're drawing an inappropriate distinction > between psychology and physiology.
