AIDS patient kills wife, children, attempts suicide

Hyderabad, Feb 27 (IANS) :

A distraught AIDS patient smashed his wife's head with a stone and smothered his

two young sons to death before attempting suicide in this Andhra Pradesh

capital.

The shocking incident is believed to have occurred early Thursday at his house

in Ramchandrapuram on the city's outskirts. Madhava Rao, 35, a factory worker,

first killed his wife Shanta and then murdered seven-year-old Ajay and

one-year-old Vijay when they were asleep before consuming pesticide.

Rao is now battling for life in a hospital.

The tragedy came to light Thursday when the house owner, Lakshmi, knocked on the

door but got no response. She peeped through the kitchen to see the woman lying

in a pool of blood. Probably with the same blood, Rao had scribbled the word

AIDS in Telugu on a wall before attempting suicide.

According to police officials, Rao left behind a note saying that he was killing

the wife and children and committing suicide as they were all suffering from

AIDS. He wrote that nobody was responsible for their deaths and advised

police not to investigate.

A native of East Godavari district, Rao had come to Hyderabad five years ago.

His relatives have no idea as to how he and other family members contracted

AIDS.
