Guest guest
Is there a way to beat this stuff? How can I be more or less okay now, but still carry the allergens and cause allergic reactions in ohters? is this unheard of? aren't there other cases like mine? Please advise.... Guest guest
felice--Tigerpaw can answer this better than I can but I have become so ill that I do not want one thing. My spouse and kids however will bring their clothes from the mustiest closets which I plan to throw out as soon as they leave the house. Most people say to leave the upholstered items, etc. It all depends on how sick you are. I am leaving it all and going to a house I just found. I can't keep coming back and forth and getting so sick and then going some other place. Take the max out on a home equity loan, buy a small cheaper house and get out while you can. Symptoms do not get better until you get out and now is better for you than 3 months from now. I have stayed too long. Even in March my symptoms would go away once I stayed out but now they don't so several months could affect your future. You don't know when " too late " is. My queen bed is only about a year old and expensive. I bought 2 beautiful cushioned pieces last spring. And what about all the wood furniture?? What CAN i keep?? Anything?? Guest guest
I'm sure you have read all the posts about cleaning and moving-I also had a 3000sq ft home- I had a big moving sale- the only mistake I made was not selling everything Hard items I scrubbed forever still contaminated my new digs. below is a clothing cleaning protical that may work The approved way for de-contaminating clothes in the washer is 2 cups of bleach with soap and borax for a hot water-12 hr soak- I find this works well for thin Items, but is very damaging and also impossible for darks. A better way I found is Vulpex soap- which is a conservateres soap that I use in my business. It is the most potente de-greaser I have ever found and is soluable in both water and solvents. A hot water soak in 1/2 cup vulpex for 12 hrs, then wash, seems to work well for most clothes-forget comforters, as they are too thick. Also polartec is the hardest to clean- requiring 2 such cleanings. I would first take all your laundry to a commercial laundry and pay them to wash it- asking for clean bags when they are finished- also ask for Borax. then you can start de-contaminating them with the vulpex soap- leave all the bags outside your new home- bringing them inside one at a time into the washer. Throw away the plastic bags they were in- right outside-The vulpex soap costs $60 a quart- so you may want to throw away everything that is not worth cleaning. A quart will do 8 loads. You can purchase it at Conservation Restorers in VA. Sorry I am at the library today so I cannot send the link. Good Luck, Thanks, > > hi yawl, > so, i hope to sell my house within the next few months and live somewhere else while this is going on. > I understand some about the mold spores getting into everything but, overall, what do you suggest. > Do I sell everything??? Guest guest
Felice, I may have missed something here, so correct me if I am wrong or did miss something. If I did please allow me to apologize now. Are you in a home with mold now? Is this the same home you are trying to sell to someone else? Has your home been remediated and you've received clearance? NO you can't sell your things to anyone else. That would just go to their home and contaminate their home, and then make their whole family sick. Yes, you can take hard porous items if you clean them properly, and clothing too. You can look back within the past couple weeks and see how to do this, we recently had a similar discussion with someone else. It will be very helpful to you too. Yes, you can take your mattress if you have it cleaned properly. But, most newbie's would be better off to just walk away. Yes, you can take important papers if you have them cleaned by professionals-very costly though. We took ours. Incased them in triple plastic bags, sealed them and then put them in air tight plastic tubs in our attic. Never opened them. Then after 3 years took the tub outside and destroyed them, while wearing protection. Books magazines everything has to be handled the same way. We left it all behind. Why take a chance on your health. If it has foam get rid of it. If it can not be wiped down like a counter forget it. Even appliances have to handled and cleaned properly. Don't take a chance on making yourself sick or anyone else for that matter. We had our home sold and was ready to close in 4 weeks. We finally got the test results back, and found out it was mold. So, needless to say we couldn't sell the home to anyone else. We told them why, took the home off the market and walked away. I hope it all works out for you, yes it is a huge financial stain, it is exhausting, and will be for years to come. I don't know if you really ever recover. But, atleast your body won't continue to be exposed to something that is going to continue to make it sicker. Most here in this group have went thru it and understand. I even have mold growing in my sinuses. I want you to understand that remediation really never works because the billions of mold spores still remain in your home. It really is impossible to get them all, and for people like us, we will remain sick forever!! So-- I suggest to get the hell out of your home and never look back. It is painful and hard but has to be done. And don't take anything with you because of cross-contamination. Trust me. I am on car # 2, hotel #20 and I still continue to feel the mycotoxins from my clothing. It really is hard to get stuff clean-- I am learning this! You will have more luck with cleaning hard items but cloth is a b***h! And forget your new bed. I had just bought a cool new bed too and I had to put it in storage. It got contaminated from cross-contamination. I strongly suggest that you bring nothing from your mold house to your new home. I have heard that you can put stuff in storage for 5 years and then the mycotoxins dissapate. But make sure there is a draft that can get to them ( do not put stuff in taped boxes). Anyhow, sorry for what you are going through. I completely understand. I am trying to do this too. It is hard on your family and finacially exhausting!! It is a very serious thing. I am finally ready to buy 1 new outfit and step into a new car and drive to a new home. This is all I will start with. It's what has to be done to survive and get better! It sucks, but it beats dying. Hang in there!
