Guest guest
I was just reading about a supplement called MSM that seems to help people with cronic pain, and also allergies. I got a book from the library about it, written by a dr who has good experiences with it. It is a derivative of DMSO, dimethylsulfoxide (I think), and is supposed to be non toxic. Guest guest
Kathleen, Dr Cheney recommends MSM. His treatment protocol is listed: http://www.virtualhometown.com/dfwcfids/medical/cheney.html Dr Cheney and the Cheney Clinic do not have a website. This is a Dallas/Ft Worth group of CFS/FM sufferers that post information on what he is recommending on their own. Note that he says it's important to get MSM from a reliable source as it's ability to absorb toxins can make it pick up toxins in manufacturing site, therefore if not manufactured under pure circumstances it could carry toxins into your body. I bought some and was taking it for two days and had a reaction to " something " , not sure if it was that, and went off everything. I think I was taking too much. Dr Cheney warns of taking small amount and building up to amount he recommends but I read it wrong the first time and started out with 8 grams. Like I said though I don't know if it was the MSM. I had trouble while taking Dr Shoe's 'CSM'. I have history of not tolerating medicine and other substances very well so don't go by me. My symptoms on MSM were extremely bitter, metallic in my mouth, followed by burning sensatin now in my mouth. Since reading on MSM stated it had no side affects, I wonder if I had mercury poisoning. I have mercury in my body and metal taste frequently is symptom of mercury poisoning so I was wondering if I had mobilized more mercury than I could handle so was suffering from symptoms of mercury poisoning. So I don't know at this point, although Dr Cheney is considering one of pioneers in working with CFS patients. Guest guest
Barb, I know what they say about DMSO, but I won't go near the stuff. My mom was taking MSM and always had the garlic smell. Just seeing DMSO gives me the creeps. The darn FDA, EPA, etc, etc say in small amounts stuff won't hurt us. :-\ I am so leery of everything. She was having problems dropping things and eventually was told she had carpal tunnel. She passed from supposed lung cancer. The stuff did not ease any of her pain before she became bedridden from CA. :-( She also had the metallic taste in her mouth. Having CFS/FM, the darn mold, and not being to tolerate hardley anything, <any meds now foods> I also am in bad shape. I know the article states higher than normal usage for DMSO, but still.... :-( http://www.elephantcare.org/Drugs/dimethyl.htm Pharmacokinetics - DMSO is well absorbed after topical administration, especially at concentrations between 80-100%. It is extensively and rapidly distributed to virtually every area of the body. After IV administration to horses, the serum half-life was approximately 9 hours. DMSO is metabolized to dimethyl sulfide (DMS) and is primarily excreted by the kidneys, although biliary and respiratory excretion also takes place --- barb1283 <barb1283@...> wrote: > Kathleen, > Dr Cheney recommends MSM. Guest guest
A.G. Well MSM is a derivative of DMSO so I'm not sure you could judge one from the other. Dr Cheney says to be sure to get pharmaceutical grade MSM as it is so absorbant that it can absorb in manufacture things you wouldn't want in your body. I did about an hour of searching for negative side affects and couldn't find any. Doesn't mean there is none. I wouldn't trust a cream as surely wouldn't be manufactured with cleanliness of something meant to be swallowed and reading says whatever it is combined with carried into circulation. I wouldn't use cream or topically either. Dr Cheney says to take a little and work up to bigger doses and that taking too much can lead to detoxing too fast. Everything I've read says there are negative consequences to detoxing too fast, mobilizing too many toxins that your body can't handle/get rid of fast enough. > Barb, > > I know what they say about DMSO, but I won't go near > the stuff. Guest guest
Did your mother by any chance not make sure the area was cleaned where the DMSO was applied? As DMSO is a carrier if there was anything on the area where it was applied it would bring that into the body. The garlic smell is I agree far from pleasant...the taste is tolerat=ble...but, it really des work when used as directed and human/food grade is safe. Some alt med people use it with ultra sound to get it deeper into the injured muscles/tissues or mixed with traumeel/traumed for anti-inflammatory effects.
