Guest guest
Does anyone know about straw bale construction? I'm looking at a house that was built in 1999 with straw bale for insulation, stucco interior and exterior walls, radiant heat floors, solar energy, and feels well constructed and dry, but I have heard straw bale can be a huge problem for those who suffer from mold sensitivities...and i was poisoned by black mold thanks for any information Jill

Guest guest
A Hay House is a bad idea. Remember " Stalin's horses " ? My family were ranchers and my Granduncle Gottleb flat-out refused to feed his horses that " new fangled " baled hay. Economic necessity made him use the " new ways " to supply hay for the US Cavalry but it sure wasn't good enough for HIS horses since the hay that wasn't stacked and dried properly grew mold like crazy and resulted in sick horses. So he used the old " rake " and set aside good fodder for his animals. My Dad told me all about the weird depression and strange neurological illnesses that ran rampant around the old ranch. My Great aunt, a lady I remember fondly who was one of the last people to migrate from Kansas in a covered wagon said by way of explanation, " There is an 'Error " in this valley " and my Grandmother demanded that a new house be built for her just a few miles away to get out of that place, but of course, everyone figured that this was due to personality clashes from arguments within the family. My Dad has no particularly fond memories of the old barn since he never felt good out there. I went to check it out for " mold hits " . The place knocked me flat. -
Guest guest
> A Hay House is a bad idea. > Remember " Stalin's horses " ? My goal for the last ten years was to build a straw bale home on my now fully owned land in southern Colorado. It is a perfect climate for the design. I researched all the pro's and cons, and there was much reference to how a properly designed straw house woud not have mold issues. However, I feel this is now not a reality for me. There's no way this could possibly work for a mycotoxic person who can't currently live in " normal " contruction. Possibly adobe, but not straw. If anything, my next house will be metal and inorganic materials, suspended on caissons with no foundation. That is, if I can manage to get through this nightmare without going bankrupt and losing all my assets, including my dream property.
