Guest guest
Our DAN recommended I purchase lithium orotate from Vitamin Research Products...vrp.com. The capsules are 4.8mg each. My 4 year old gets one each day, and my 16 year old 200 pounder gets two capsules a day. I have seen neither positive nor negative changes in either of them since they started taking them in June. The reason we started this supplement is that, according to our DAN, research shows that children who grow up in areas where the water has low levels of lithium are more likely to end up with psychological problems or in trouble with the law. [Moderator: I could not track down that study, but did find these: Lithium(LI) is associated with less cavities... " On the contrary, the concentration of Li in water supply of Talwandi Kalan with low caries was found to be higher compared to that of Dhanansu and Bhatian with higher dental caries in children population. " PMID: 8040693] but if fluoride is in the water, it reverses " When corrected for the F contribution, Li in water supplies showed a positive correlation " PMID: 3457046 It is associated with lower suicide rates " a significant negative correlation between dissolved lithium concentrations in the groundwater and suicide mortality rates was found (r = -.150, p < .025). Figures 1 and 4 confirm this, particularly in the south-central region of the state where high suicide mortality rates correspond to low lithium concentrations. " http://www.unt.edu/honors/eaglefeather/2006_Issue/flanagan6.shtml ] Okay, I know for a fact I did not relay that correctly or word it right but please keep in mind I have SEVERE brain fog issues...not only CFS, but also just dx'd fibromyalgia also and this supp was prescribed to my kids during a phone consult. lol But that was the gyst of the reason why they are taking it now.... not to improve any symptoms they have, per se, but to protect their mental health in the future. I do remember specifically my DAN! saying that lithium orotate at such low levels would not effect their behavior, cognitive abilities or any other aspect of their daily functioning in any way, shape or form (I asked as my oldest is dx'd mood disorder NOS and at the word lithium I got scared lol). Guest guest
-hey jabu at the " crazymeds " site they very strongly advise caution with lithium orotate. It sounds like it could be just as rough on the kidneys as carbonate and maybe blood levels should be checked on orotate too. I can't figure it out, not enough studies. [Moderator: It is often best to try to identify 5 or more substances to try, list out the benefits and the known risks (side-effects) and then pick the one with the greatest benefit to risk ratio. Guest guest
Thanks to both of you for the advice and he links. I am going to email our DAN...by the way he is Dr. Rossignol in Melbourne, Florida. Very well know and respected in the autism biomedical community. But, I am going to email him for further clarification on the information he relayed to me in our phone consult about why the boys need the lithium orotate. I will ask him to email me the studies...sometimes they prefer to snail mail hard copies. I can say that I trust him implicitly with my boys (and my) health and our current/future recovery. Under his guidance my four year old has lost his diagnosis of autism, my sixteen year old is doing fabulously after regressing years after his seventh grade boosters, and since I haven't been able to find anyone to treat me since getting sick (beyond treating symptoms) he's been helping me to. All three of us are confirmed cases of heavy metal and xenobiotic toxicity, are wracked with yeast, viruses and other pathogens and have genetic issues which interfere with our abilities to detox. Thanks again and I will post any info he forwards to me.
Guest guest
julie sounds like the guy has been a great match for your family. I just briefly experimented with the LO in the last week or so and initially I thought it was helping stabilize my energy and less awareness of some of my irritating cfs symptoms, but then I started to get headaches, hyper a bit and it felt like my kidneys hurt and peeing a lot. So I did more research and found when I dug deeper (beyond forums of antectodal stories and supplement sponsored sites) it sounded like lithium in any form should be handled with reverence and blood testing. Please do let us know if thats not true, I am taking a break from it and may come back at it with different dose, as michael said a larger dose may be less agitating but I am afraid to do that in case it makes the headaches and kidney thing weirder. It is odd that on such a small dose I would notice kidney effect after like 4 days, I think. but it wasnt power of suggestion because I didnt know that was apossible side effect. > > Thanks to both of you for the advice and he links.
