Herx/Detox Prevention and Minimization Protocol

Ken asked me to post this on the list. When I first decided to treat myself

I was already in a great deal of pain so when I started detoxing from the

toxins being released, the pain would be unbearable and I would stop the

protocols I was on. So I decided to do some research to figure out how to

stop or at least minimize the reactions I was having. I discovered that

doing this is really important when treating Cancer patients because

sometimes their reactions to the cures can kill them. So I used that

information to develop a Herx/detox protocol for myself. These are from

notes I took when I was extremely ill and my brain was fuzzy so the

references are not all included, but are likely easy to find on the web.

See my protocol below. I list my daily regimen, my regimen for what I do

when I start Herxing; some new supplements great results with detoxing that

I am considering adding to the protocol, options for dealing specifically

with migraines and nausea, followed by descriptions and instructions about

the supplements used. Some of the items many of you already know about or

use, but there are a few you may be unfamiliar with. If any of you have

some tips I may not have thought of, please share them.

Tracey

Detox/Herx Prevention Protocol- the following usually prevents me from

experience any serious herx reactions from the supplements and medicines I

take

Step 1. Spanish Black Radish 3 times a day to help remove toxins from my

body to prevents severe herx/detox response. See Description Below

Step 2. A combination of Activated Charcoal, Fiber and Bentonite, with

Coconut Oil once a day to prevent strong herx/detox reactions. Details and

description below

Detox/Herx Response minimization Protocol- What I do if I have a severe

Detox/Herx Reaction so that it will be less severe and shorter duration

Step 1. Take the combination of Activated Charcoal, Fiber and Bentonite,

with Coconut Oil three times a day Details and description below

Step 2. Detox with a Vitamin C flush - See some directions at the

following link: http://www.askrph3.com/healthcare/article_cflush.shtml

Step 3. Coffee Enema -The enzymes in coffee, known as palmitates, help the

liver carry away the toxins in bile acid. The coffee is absorbed into the

hemorrhoidal vein, then taken up to the liver by the portal vein. With the

bile ducts dilated, bile carries toxins away to the gastro-intestinal tract.

Simultaneously, peristaltic activity is encouraged because of the flooding

of the lower colon. Thus, when the colon is evacuated, the toxins and bile

are carried out of the body. I read on the list last week that it also

helps the body produce glutathione

Dealing Specifically with Migraines - For headaches and migraines, I take

feverfew. I also take a relax herb formula which usually contains hops,

passionflower and valerian. I rub Vicks vapor rub on spot where the headache

is and that helps and finally I drink a small cup of coffee sometimes or

take a shower. I know this is a lot, but my detox/Herx response used to

last 3-5 days. That is an unbearable amount of time when experiencing an

extreme migraine. Lately, I just take small doses of fever few throughout

the day to prevent that migraine. I have read that butterbur is extremely

effective with migraines, but I have not tried it yet.

Dealing Specifically with Nausea - For nausea, I might take or eat any of

the following apple pectin, ginger, ginger tea, papaya, papain, pineapple,

or bromelain, which is a blood thinner that helps the detox process

Two new supplements that I might be adding to the protocol

~Turkish Rhubarb

~Hyssop

Details about the combination of Activated Charcoal, Fiber and Bentonite,

with Coconut Oil. I take it once a day to prevent strong herx/detox

reactions. If having a severe herx/detox reactions, increase to three times

a day until symptoms abate. Usually this will happen within 24 -28 hours

I take two table spoons of bentonite, two tablespoons of Coconut oil with

8-16oz of water and 1 tablespoon of fiber that may contain Apple Pectin, Gum

Guar, Psyllium, Grapefruit Pectin or some other combination of fiber. I

read that it should be done as a shake, but I have to take so much stuff,

I'm more able to stay on a schedule of taking this everyday is I take five

fiber pills and 2 coconut oil pills. The coconut oil is for people with

Candida or fungus issues as it has caproprylic acid (sp). Make sure you

take this at last an hour (preferable two after or before meals and

medicines or supplements. )

Within one hour, follow up with activated charcoal Alternative health

practitioners recommend taking 1 teaspoon mixed in a glass of water, but, I

am better able to stick to the daily program, if I take three activated

charcoal pills with a glass of water. Wait at least one hour, but

preferably two hours before taking any medication or supplements. Some

people recommend mixing the charcoal with the Fiber and Bentonite, with

Coconut Oil. I used to do that, but I saw a swifter abatement of pain when

I began to separate the charcoal from the Fiber and Bentonite, with Coconut

Oil. See descriptions of Benonite and Charcoal below. If I have severe

abdominal cramping, I do not take the charcoal because it sometimes makes it

worse.

More about the substances I use

Spanish Black Radish - Black Radish Root creates a tonic effect on the

respiratory system, activates the liver cells, maintains a healthy

gallbladder, aids digestion, facilitates a diuretic effect, is cleansing, is

antibacterial, and is an excellent coadjutant for a hepatic colic by

stimulating the secretion of bile. Black Radish Root is rich in vitamin C

which makes it an interesting ally during winter months to fight coughs,

infections and free radicals. Black radish also contains B vitamins and

sulfur. Its high content of fiber increase peristaltic movements and is a

helpful laxative for constipation and bile movement.Active ingredients:

Calcium, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Sodium, Vitamin C, all of the

vitamin Bs, Linoleic acid and Alpha-linolenic acid, Glutamic acid, glycine,

Histidine; indoleacetic acid, indoleacetonitrile, Isoleucine, Leucine;

Methionine; S-methyl-L-cysteinsulfoxide; thiamin; Threonine; Tryptophan;

tyrosine; Valine; Contraindications: People with gallbladder problems (i.e.

stones, obstructions) should not take too much black radish all at once, as

well as people with severe kidney or hepatic (liver) problems. In these

cases, it is best to consult a qualified medical practitioner before using

black radish juice or eating significant amounts of black radish or any

other forms of radish.

Turkish Rhubarb- It is rich in tannins has strong bowel detox effects ;

helps cleanse blood of toxins ; has gentle laxative action; cleans liver

and supports secretion of bile into intestine it contains vitamins,

minerals, bioflavionoids, tannic acids ; it contains Rheins, which inhibits

growths of pathogens , bacteria and Candida and parasites ; It increases

the flow of saliva and gastric secretions and can be used as an astringent

or stomachic at a low dosage to stop diarrhea. The German Pharmacopoeia

recommends the root against constipation and for all disorders in which

defecation with a soft stool is desired, e.g. anal fissures, hemorrhoids and

after rectal operations. It also recommends a small dose for stomach and

bowel catarrh. It is also used against toothaches, and is said to improve

bleeding ulcers up to 90% within a few days; Anthraquinones are also

cytotoxic and stimulate cellular regeneration, detoxification and cleansing.

Activated charcoal - Activated charcoal is estimated to reduce up to 60% of

poisonous substances being absorbed. It works by adsorbing (soaking up)

chemicals, thus reducing their toxicity (poisonous nature), through the

entire length of the GI tract (stomach and small and large intestines).

Activated Charcoal Powder will correct Diarrhea. If a Person has severe

Diarrhea (i.e. - I.B.S., Crohn's Disease & Colitis), it can work to stop the

diarrhea. Activated Charcoal Powder acts like a powerful electrical Sponge,

attracting and holding onto most of the toxins being eliminated by your

Body, thus allowing your Body to rid itself of the much amounts of tosix,

which remain. Charcoal can do these varied tasks because of its amazing

ability to attract other substances to its surface and hold them there.

Charcoal can absorb thousands of times its own weight in gases, heavy

metals, poisons, and other chemicals, thus making them ineffective or

harmless.

BENTONITE - Bentonite is a volcanic ash. As it contains many minerals (24

to 33), The value of montmorillonite (the active ingredient in bentonite)

lies in its ability to absorb (not absorb) many times its own weight and

volume in an aqueous medium. It has a predominantly negative charge that is

capable of attracting many kinds of positively charged particles. Its

negative charge enables it to pick up positively charged, toxic material

from the alimentary canal to be expelled in the feces. The adsorption is a

rapid process and can quickly neutralize allergens before they attach

themselves to blood cells, thus preventing allergic reaction. There is no

evidence that bentonite has any chemical action on the body. Its power is

purely physical. Studies have also found that the montmorillonite in the

Detoxificant removes bacteria and thus can help relieve symptoms of

diarrhea, abdominal cramps, malaise, headaches and nausea.

HYSSOP - Hyssop and its oil are mainly used to treat respiratory problems.

hyssop is used for the treatment nasal congestion and mild irritations of

the respiratory tract. The marrubiin of Hyssop facilitates the expectoration

of mucus. The hyssop essential oil has stimulant and antiseptic affects. In

addition to working as an expectorant, it also is used against cramps of the

digestive tract, relaxes peripheral blood vessels, promotes sweating, is an

anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic. Its other active constituents are

volatile oil, flavonoids, tannins and bitter substance marrubin A strong tea

made from the leaves and flowering tops is used in lung, nose and throat

congestion and catarrhal complaints, and externally it can be applied to

bruises, to reduce the swelling and discoloration. The essential oil

contain pinocamphone and isopinocamphone which have neurotoxic effects. When

used as an expectorant, some people mix it with horehound. The Herb

Society's " Complete Medicinal Herbal " cautions however that " the essential

oil contains the ketone pino-camphone which in high doses can cause

convulsions.
