Guest guest
I recently started taking a mushroom called Suehirotake. I read that there have been studies done with its use with CFS, and patients with chronic fatigue syndrome showed significant improvement accompanied by increased NK cell counts, but I cannot find much. Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners also use it to combat fatigue. I think it is working because recently I went to the zoo with relatives walking around with intermittent resting on the benches and spent the whole day, Later I was able to go out to dinner. While I was very tired and vegged the next day, I did not crash. Normally, I do not have that amount of energy for walking around. I usually, can only walk around for about an hour I cannot find much on it. Pubnet has nothing. I wanted to know if anyone had any experience with it or knew anything about it. Below is some info I found on immunesupport about a drug in trials that is derived from it [Moderator: Often it is helpful to find the latin name for the more uncommon items. I found that it was " Schizophyllum commune Fries " and got 15 hits on medline, which lead me to the name of one of it's components " sizofiran (SPG) " which gave me 202 hits. One example... " These results indicate that SPG is able to modulate both cellular and humoral immune responses specific for nucleocapsid antigens in patients with chronic hepatitis B. " PMID: 1761362 I will leave you to review and extract items of note..] Sizofiran - Sizofiran, an immunostimulant extracted from suehirotake mushroom (Schizophyllum commune) cultured fluid, is under development by Fidia Farmaceutici Italiani Deriviate Industriali a Affini for the potential treatment of cancer and hepatitis B. Sizofiran is licensed by Kaken Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Japan. Trials were underway for the treatment of gastric and lung tumor; phase III trials are underway for the treatment of hepatitis B; and the compound is in phase II trials for chronic fatigue syndrome. By August 1999, Kaken was preparing its NDA filing for hepatitis B. Significant sizofiran-induced rises in IFN-gamma and IL-2 in culture medium of phytohemagglutinin (PHA) or concanavalin A-stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells have been observed. Further reports on sizofiran should become available in the near future. http://www.immunesupport.com/library/showarticle.cfm/ID/4181/
