Guest guest
From staff reports http://www.dadesentinel.com/051805-6.htm Library Shutting Down Monday The library is closing Monday. Directors with the Cherokee Regional Library System, which oversees operations in Dade County, were meeting with staff Tuesday morning to plan for cleanup and removal of water-damaged materials and to take care of a mold problem recently discovered. " The Cherokee Regional Library System is developing plans for continuing library service to the citizens of Dade County, " said director Tope in a prepared statement. " The public will be notified as soon as possible about the alternate plan for service. " Dade County Commissioners ie Pittman and met with cleanup contractors as costs were discussed this week. " We hope to have something ready to take to the commissioners' meeting on (June) 2, " said Lecia Eubanks, the library system's assistant director. " We are just a tenant in the building so we will ask the county to repair the building. " Commissioners disagreed two months ago about who should pay for work at the library when a specialized mold inspection team was hired to take a close look at the Trenton building. There are leaks in the roof and other problems contributing to an ongoing situation there and library officials have expressed concerns about materials being damaged and liability issues related to health concerns. Vacation Reading Club also kicks off next month and the library was trying to find an alternate location to house the activities. " Three-hundred to 400 people come to that each Wednesday, " said Eubanks, who added that they are working with the school system to find a suitable site but nothing had yet been arranged. The library will close Monday and remain that way until the damage is fixed, Eubanks said. While no set date for reopening had yet been established, Eubanks thought the cleanup process would only take two or three weeks once the funds to pay for it had been approved.
